Tire Pressure

Hello Ladies,

Do you keep the tire pressure at the maxium (as stated on the side of the tire) for your RV and towing vehcile?

Edit to add: The reason I am asking, someone told me I should not put the maxium amount of air pressure in my tires, because when they get overheated the pressure will increase. I know when rolling on tires after ahwile they do heat up, no problem with that statement, but to under pressure them. I just don't know about that. My RV and Truck manual both state to put my tires at 80 lbs pressure. That is what I have been keeping them set to .

No, I use what my RV recommends. I had a chart taped inside a kitchen cabinet (go figure) that said 65 in the front and 80 in the rear. My tires say 80.

What Karen said. Go with what is recommended. But what you were told - is why you don't take your tire pressure with hot tires. Because it's not the pressure you are filling to. Always - cold tires - use recommended pressure. Underinflated tires are dangerous. This might sound like it's hard to believe, but an underinflated tire will run HOTTER than a properly inflated tire. And there is a blow-out waiting to happen.

But -you don't go by the maximum pressure on the tire - you go by what your VEHICLE states for your tires. You and a friend could use the same tires, and have vehicles recommending different pressures. The vehicles weight etc plays into fact here. Check your vehicles for what is recommended - and go by that.

I agree with Bethers, always adjust tire pressure when they are cold. But if you are like me, I don't carry an air compressor with me, so by the time I get to a truck stop, the tires are hot. So.....I measure the pressure in each one (x6) and then when I get to a truck stop, I do the math and add accordingly. Also, I know it isn't advised, but I run mine 5psi over the recommended pressure (55 instead of 50) as it improves my gas mileage by 1-2 mpg. That is just me.

Your 5er may have the recommendations for it pasted inside somewhere. Could be about any place that the tech decided to slap it on that day. I swear some times they want you to do the hide n seek thing. Just playing with you. My RV has it posted in the front near the driver's seat and also a big thing in the rear closet.

Our toyhauler has it posted on the outside plate near the front drivers side, it also lists the weight, etc.
