Barbie, that ice blocking does look like fun. We use to "sled" on the hills near us using plastic trays we "borrowed" from the school cafeteria. I think the ice would work better, but the trays were so much lighter to lug back up the hill.

Sheila, I'm with you on that sundae. The mint chip ice cream just makes it, my favorite.

Lenora, that really is the pits about your son's housing situation. Makes you wonder what the landlord was doing with the rent money. Congrats on his promotion.

Bikerchick77, sounds like you are lining things up pretty well and should be in good shape for the winter job hunt.

Barbie, you should bring up the fact that you (all the stylists) don't get even a lunch break with your manager. It is the law. The manager wouldn't have the turn over that she has if she let you take the required breaks. What would she do if you actually took a lunch break? She needs to update her managerial skills.

We had a meeting for work tonight. I asked about what the policy is about taking breaks when it is busy. The General Manager answered the question and my shop manager didn't say a thing. The GM said that if we need a break to eat or get something to drink, we are allowed to do that as needed, and if it is really busy we should keep it to no more than 15 minutes at a time. So if I do that from now on, and my manager says anything, I will remind her about what the GM said. That sounds much more reasonable. Today was quite a bit slower than yesterday, so I did get some down time to eat my lunch and get off my feet for awhile. There are three new stylists starting next weekend so that should help a lot too. Hopefully, that will also take some of the pressure off of me from my manager. She'll be too busy yelling at the newbies!

I have tomorrow off so I can relax a bit. I remembered to say "Rabbits" this morning so hopefully, this will be a good month for me as I get things in order for my move!

On the way home tonight, I noticed that flags were at half-staff all over. I was wondering who died and couldn't find anything on the internet. Then I was checking the Palm Springs on-line newspaper and figured it out. It was three years ago today that the 35W bridge collapsed into the Mississippi River in Minneapolis, killing 13 people, so the governor asked that flags be flown at half-staff today in their honor. (Had to read the Palm Springs paper to find that out!) That was one of those situations that I remember exactly when and where I was when it happened. One of the girls at work used to live in an apartment building next to the bridge and saw the whole thing. It was really awful and very sad.

I am in Columbus getting ready for bed so that I can wake up early and face a building full of 4-H'ers and their dogs! One of my good friends and fellow dog adviser from Warren County is staying in the same motel and we will drive back and forth to the fairgrounds each day. The kayaking white water in NC with daughter and SIL went well. Beth, I got to get a first hand experience in a "ducky" which is build like the SeaEagles.....It was white water and that baby was very stable so I am thinking that I would be very comfortable on lakes and slower rivers. Slipped over or around most rocks. I only got stranded on the rocks once and had to step out and back in. It was self bailing for obvious reasons.... Even the getting out seems easier than my hard shell kayak. I can clearly see that there would be plenty of room for Izzy to sit. It measured 10 feet. So...with that experience I will go back and review all those on line choices. I am beginning to think that "looks" might not be that important if the things provides a good experience. Will be comparing lengths and room for my backside and my legs and the dog

Tina - yep - looks aren't what it's about. I went for size and weight - think mine is cute - but didn't know that until I got her I've been out with boats speeding past, and haven't minded a bit those waves. Well, except when I wanted to get home and they made me work harder LOLOL - My ARMS my ARMS (said like "da plane, da plane").

Just sitting and chilling.....tired, tired. 12 hour day here at the Ohio State Fair. Filled with wonderful well mannered young people and their well mannered dogs. Some of the other judges and stewards are individuals that I have know for 20 years of 4-H dog shows and fun matches from counties across the state and the yearly trips to the State Fair. This is about the 4th or 5th time in 15 years that I have had the opportunity to judge state. It is always fun! On to bed and back to the fairgrounds by 7am tomorrow. Obedience and drill team and Rally tomorrow. We had Showmanship, Dog Care and Rally competitions today.

Hope the temps stay manageable. Heat and kids and hundreds of dogs...not the best combinations.

Wow...loving having high speed internet. I have to say..I find it frustrating when you book a campground that offers wi-fi and then the signal is so low it barely works if at all. IMO they should say...wifi available but spotty/weak at site.

Well I have been working on getting the blog (see my sig line). I have the first part completed...and will work on the rest over the next couple of days.

Our Exchange student arrives on Wed. She will be here for week before returning to Japan. She has been here 2 weeks already and stayed with another host family. It is a really neat program through Compass USA. It is short term summer program the girls come over for 3 weeks,

Great blog, Kristy! Thanks for posting these pics. I remember Bellingham as being a beautiful little town, and from there I went to the San Juan Islands, which were also spectacular. My first marriage, lasting about 5 days, (another story for around a campfire some night) took place in Bellingham over Easter Vacation! I love family pics----your family looks to be so happy all the time!

Just got home from work @ 11pm (after stopping for gas, groceries and a DQ ice cream cone). I got a message on my answering machine from the owner of the GC's in Palm Springs saying she is definately interested in me since I work for GC's! She left her cell phone # so I will call her in the morning and let you know what she says! I'm excited!
(Maybe the "rabbits" thing is working already!).

It has cooled off some tonight so I might just open up the windows overnight. No time for cookies tonight so you are on your own for treats!

Wow! I am so excited that people are finally joining in on the campfire

I started my day off with a nice walk with Rags. Saw my mink friend again. He is just the cutest little guy!!! I am amazed that he is so brave I made kissy noises and he came right up to me and Rags I tried not to be as nervous this time and had my phone ready to take a pic and got a good one I will try to attach it, but if I can't figure it out, then maybe Barbie can for me. I sent her one. I'm thinking of taking some pieces of Rags' kibble and see if I can coax him out again for more pics. He checks us out, then goes off to hunt for snakes. The first time I saw him I got to see him hunt down a snake and start eating it. Close your eyes, Barbie! Took my bicycle to have my brake cable replaced. I use my bike for work to do my rounds sometimes so thought I better get it fixed since the rear brake wasn't working. I didn't even get in the shop and the owner met me in the parking lot and fixed it I felt so stupid I didn't notice that the cable had come loose. I thought for sure it had snapped....duh! At least there was no charge

Got my laundry done at Mom's today. I dropped off 8 lbs of peaches on Sunday that I had bought at Walmart for 25 cents/lb. She made peach jam. I told her not to pay me for the peaches, but share whatever she made from them She gave me two jars! I tasted her sample jar and it was so yummy! I slapped a bunch on a slice of bread and had a jelly sandwich...MMMMM!!! She left in the late afternoon to go to a dinner with her WPCI (Widowed Persons of Central Iowa) group so I got my DVD player out of her garage and set it up on her TV. Now we can watch a movie together.

I had some of those peaches, too, so I peeled and cut them up and put together a pie tonight. I can't eat a whole pie so I stuck it in the freezer so I have one to throw in the oven if I need something for a pot luck. Better get my dishes washed and head to bed. I hear rain starting to fall on Myrtle. The weather radio has been going crazy already. Storms south of here. I may have to turn it off so I can get some sleep.

BTW,Barbie....I'm looking forward to watching you ice blocking Don't think my back can take that anymore. Now, I would go for a piece of cardboard. We did that when I moved to RI. Took our moving boxes and broke them down and slid down the grassy hill on them. Had all the neighbors doing it, too! It was a blast!!!
