It's called...HYPER! If her body isn't moving, her mind is It didn't take us long to figure out how different we are when it comes to food choices. I like to eat healthy, with mostly healthy snacks....except the occasional s'more I don't want to lecture, Barbie, but try to take care of yourself so you stay healthy for your move.

I ended up spending most of my day job hunting for my winter job. I found an RV park in Beaumont, CA that needs a groundskeeper/landscaper. Sounds pretty cushy since it is in the desert. They do charge for electric, though, which I don't like. It is for the site, but no hourly pay. I would have to find an outside job, too. I also talked to the stand-in volunteer coordinator for Joshua Tree National Park. She sent me a volunteer app. I'm leaning more that way, since that is where I used to live and most of my friends are closeby. I would have to get a job, too, but I have connections there. I told her I would have to do that and she said as long as I could put in about 30 hours, mostly on Fri, Sat, and Sun. I'm used to putting in most of my hours here on the weekend, so no big deal. I'll send her that app back in the morning. I'm feeling more encouraged, anyway I'll toast to that! 87 bottles of beer on the wall! I thought you girls were boozers! I'm getting tired of drinking alone

Barbie I've got to add to Beth's concern's ...and normally I'm not one to suggest these as they have can have extra sodium but get some good tv dinners and pop them in the micro wave at home ...atleast you will have some nutrients take ensure or any of those drinks must be some way of grabbing a few bites ...one of us could report her to the labor commission not getting a lunch break is against the law! and I understand that you wouldn't want to get on her bad side but.... someone needs to do it. Yesterday we ate at one of the lodges first time for this one...I saw one waitress she waitressed, brought drinks to those who ordered them and then bussed the table...I thought wow they are expecting a lot..... and as we sat there one table didn't wait cause there was a wait wonder how many people leave not buying any thing wouldn't it pay to hire more help??? And that is what I'm wondering about this place you work at think she could hire more and still keep you all busy enough...hang in there and keep smiling

I have brought Ensure to work but I seem to just get a few gulps out of it during the day and throw the rest out when I leave. I am trying to think of something I can bring that I don't have to cook and that won't spoil during the day either. PB&J sandwiches get old quick (and stick to my teeth)!

They are trying to hire a couple more stylists so that should help. We are definately short-handed there. I hope the shops and managers are better in California! The shop I worked at here before was great for 5 years, with a great owner and great managers and I loved working there, but then the owner sold it, and the new owner came in, fired our managers and brought in her own, changed everything, and the place went to hell in a handbasket! The first manager ended up in a mental hospital, the second manager (promoted from assistant manager) lasted one month and asked for a demotion back to assist. manager because she couldn't deal with the new owner. The last manager was so awful, that I had to quit. The manager and assistant managers of their other shop also quit within a month or so after they took over. Maybe they are under more pressure here because the home office is here in Mpls. Hopefully, it isn't that way at all of them!

My cookies have oatmeal in them so that is healthy! And I drink lots of milk with them too!

Do I need to start a new thread for people who miss the morning coffee, but still want to talk about their day? It seems the campfire is dying out

It was an easy day at work today. Got my comfort stations slop and mopped and DXH tidied up the picnic shelters. There were no reservations for today so I showered and met a girlfriend for coffee. We visited for 2 hrs and then decided to go to Jimmy John's for a sandwich and continue our visit. She is going to let me get on her family phone plan on Sept. 1st, so that will save me $$ I stopped at a few stores before heading home. There was a show choir having a car wash to raise money for a trip to Orlando next spring, so my truck got it's first bath since I got her in May. The rain has been doing pretty well at keeping her clean, but I have to admit that she looks much better after some soap and elbow grease

I was so glad to read on the morning coffee that Soos is now receiving her retirement money It sounds like she's keeping plenty busy in her retirement. Still can't believe those temps...the 30's at the end of July? Didn't know anywhere in the US was like that in the summer I personally prefer that for my winter lows...at the coldest! That's why I'm full timing it

One of my CA friends called me today. She is excited that I'm planning to head out there this winter. She said that if I don't get a volunteer work camping position at Joshua Tree Nat'l Park, I can park Myrtle next to her house She is so sweet!!! I had the same offer from another girlfriend in Joshua Tree, too. Guess I really can't worry then, can I? Dottie said she would find out if they still need someone to do her old job of cleaning the post office on base. I will check back with my other GF to see if she talked to her friend that works at the optical shop I used to work at. It is a different company now, but I still have my certification, so should be able to get decent pay if I worked there. I may also call my friend who owns the U-Haul business on base and see if he needs any extra help. I used to transfer trucks for him when I was single, unemployed, and poor. I also cleaned rentals for a realtor so may check on that. It's a small town so not a whole lot of employment potential. May be able to get seasonal work at the Marine Corps Exchange. I've done that, too. At least some ideas to go with Would like to have it all worked out before I leave here in Oct.

This campfire never dies out - just sometimes less people can make it to it in the evening. Other nights it's crowded. With that, I'm grabbing a beer ... we're now at ... Lori where are you - my official beer counter???

Barbie, I rarely had a microwave at work - my lunches were healthier for it, I think then - lots of fruit. And there are lots of sandwiches other than pb&j - especially if you have a refrigerator. You say you are trying Ensure. That's great - but grab some of the Power Bars or breakfast bars, or protein bars - snack on them and fruit - healthy things!!!! I've always worked whirlwind jobs with rarely time to take real lunches - you sneak those bites in when/where you can. And keep hydrated above all, please.

OK, scrolling back, hope I got it right --- I took one above - we're at 87 bottles of beer on the wall.

Hey, I just read about a new sport out in Palm Springs that I want to try out! It's called 'ice blocking' where you slide down a grassy hill on a block of ice! The downside is that you have to haul the block of ice back up the hill each time. But it gets lighter each trip as it melts down! I think I would come up with a way to drag it back up instead. Sounds like fun tho! No snowboots needed! (Gloves maybe!)

Worked 8 hours straight today without a single break (the manager got lunch!). Very busy! My manager had the new receptionist in tears today. I found out from one of the girls that most of the stylists they hire never last more than a few weeks there. Gee, I wonder why? If I wasn't moving in a couple months, I would be looking for a new job. Tomorrow night we have a meeting. That should be fun!

I sold my table and chairs I had out on my porch. Still have a few bigger pieces of furniture to put up for sale. Hopefully, I can get it all sold and use the money for moving. Gotta start sorting thru all my stuff and get rid of what I won't be taking with me or storing at my dad's.

Our State Fair starts in 3 weeks! That means the end of summer soon. I used to get really bummed out about that, but now instead of dreading the cold and snow, I can look forward to nice warm, sunny weather all winter in CA!

OK...this I gotta see, Barbie First off...where is the grassy hill in the desert? Then, where do you get the block of ice...again, in the desert? Then, how would you stay on the block of ice? As you can tell, I'm totally puzzled Do you have a link we can see?

Glad you got your little table and chairs sold. I know you liked it so how did it feel to sell it? I listed a few more things on Craig's List so we will see if they go. I have some small stuff in Mom's garage that I think she would like me to get rid of, but they are more garage sale items. Since garage sales are on days I work, I'm not sure how I could swing it. I know she wouldn't do it, but she would help me. She spent a day with me at my big moving sale and seemed to enjoy helping. I'm sure we could find enough stuff between the two of us to make a pretty decent sale.

I think our State Fair is Aug 12-22. I always go for a day so will go on one of my days off...whichever one looks the coolest! I will miss riding my motorcycle there and getting a nice close parking spot Some friends were coming to stay here for the fair, but I quit hearing from them when Jerry and I split. We all went to the fair together last summer. I doubt that they will contact me. People can be strange, can't they?

Thanks for keeping the campfire going, Beth and Barbie! I'll toast to that...so that makes it 86 bottles of beer on the wall!!!

babysitting this weekend or should say my tv is.... a set of 4 year old twins then 7 9 and 11 year olds... Dad will be deployed in Sept so Mom has to attend some meetings to help the spouses know what help ect is available while the troop is gone... it was a good weekend to have them not many campers leaving until tomorrow and the 11 year old can watch them while I help dh but I'm so tired of kid shows! it's bed time and they are in the 'guest house' which is a tent set up for family...and no sounds so think they settled down fast tonight. brought a book to read really good you might like it called Winter's Garden. Is there some chocolate? I'd die for a brownie sundae sounds so yummy...brownie with mint choc chip ice cream and hot fudge and whipped cream topped with cherry and nuts...........no not here? well guess I'll have some of Barbie's Chocolate chip cookies thanks Barbie

I think I mentioned about my son's visitors the other night? He's in the Air Force in CA. and rents a home. Well, his landlord showed up with a realtor and and he found out the home is being foreclosed on! Not a happy camper about that. His wife, my DIL, just had major surgery 2 wks ago and is having a slow recovery, too.
On a little happier note, he also got promoted to Major!
No beer for me, bedtime!

That's too bad about your son's housing situation, Lenora. Maybe the bank or mortgage company would work with him to keep the house from being vacant. But that would probably mean they would want them to show it to potential buyers. Moving is stressful when you are in good health. My dad was in the Air Force when I was growing up and our packing boxes were like part of the family. lol

My son is looking at retiring from the Air Force in the next year and he is going to lose a lot on his house if he can sell it at all.

The military have it rough when it comes to housing. There is such a long waiting list to get on base and if you want a fairly decent place you need to pay allot of rent or buy a home. The military does help some with housing expense off base, thank goodness. Buying a home is tricky for military and he really doesn't want to do that. Will just have to wait and see...
PS today is his first day in the ER as a Major!
PSS please tell you son I thank him for his service.
