Greetings from the South

Come on in and say hello.

Greetings from the South

Postby doglady » Tue Jul 27, 2010 10:41 pm

I'm fairly new to RVing - bought a used Minnie Winnie in February and have taken it on the road about 6 times now - longest trip about two weeks.

I travel with two dogs - Belgian Malinois - once I get the forum figured out I'll post some photos.

I am getting ready to jump into some work camping with an eye to becoming a full-timer. Look forward to meeting you all.

Welcome DogLady! Glad you decided to join us. Tell us a little bit about yourself, what area of the south are you in? There's a thread in the Tech/Maint. section that will help you learn how to post pics, most of us use PhotoBucket, but there are others. If you're available in Sept. you should consider the AR GTG (get together), it's gonna be fun!

Welcome, doglady! Hope you'll enjoy it here. I had to google your breed - that's a beautiful animal! I'm sure you've NEVER heard this before, but reminds me of a German Shepard! Can't wait to see pictures of them!

Welcome doglady and welcome to your dogs, from my dog, Roe. He's a lovable cocker-lab. What part of the South are you from. I'm a "most-of-the-time rver," but have a house in Florida where I spend most of the winters. Hope you'll join in our conversation threads with any questions or comments you may have.

Welcome, Doglady. Glad to have you with us. I'll just be the chorus here - tell us more, we're nosy! And please, join in where ever you'd like. Feel free to be nosy back. And to ask questions - there are no stupid questions.

I'm a full-timer going into my 6th year. Started out with 2 dogs both who were older and have since gone to Rainbow Bridge. Now I travel with one rescue dog - Peaches, a part American Eskimo/part Pom.

Welcome !! Courious as to what part of the south, you're from. Like your name, knew right off, you must have dogs :) As has been said, we are a nosey bunch, (nice nosey), we just love hearing, ANYTHING you want to tell us  This is a great group, if you ever have a chance just go to one GTG and meet in person, some of these ladies, and you will know you've done the nicest thing for yourself, by joining us. Our group, is spread from the Atlantic to the Pacific, so you will have friends, anywhere you go. Which Liz and Joselyn, have been doing.

Hope to hear from you often on here, so we get to know you better. We have threads, that will tell you so much about any of us, you'd like to know, our pets, our rigs, our mechanic type problems ;) , which we all have from time to time. So in turn we are anxious to hear all we can about you.

Glad you've joined us,
CArol

Wow! Thanks for the warm welcome from all - what an inviting group - I feel welcome and comfortable already.

I'll try and answer some of your questions -

BirdbyBird wrote:Welcome aboard. JUmp in when you can. Join us around the campfires...real or imagined. Share your journey with us! Do you compete in conformation or performance events with your dogs? I look forward to meeting down the road.

I am an AKC agility judge and instructor - which is part of the reason I got the RV in the first place - I was traveling a lot and some of the hotels were kind of iffy - started packing sheets, mattress pads, etc... I wanted my own bed - AND - wanted to be able to take the dogs with me without any hassles - it has worked out great.

Pre Agility - well - I use to have a "real" job - was an engineer on sonar systems (civilian contractor) - I got burnt out by a 16 mile commute which took me almost two hours and took a leave of absence and never went back.

While on leave I became a white water rafting guide (Colorado and Arkansas Rivers) and telemark ski instructor - BUT - I missed the ocean - so I bought a sailboat and lived off the coast of California for a couple of years.

Ailing parents brought me back south and now I'm in a position to go exploring again -

I currently am based outside of Savannah, GA and have accepted my first work camper job with one of the state parks (only about an hour away) - figured I'd stay close to home for the first one - until I get in the swing of things.

I've also been talking with Amazon about their work camper program for this fall (anybody have any experience with them?)

Anyway - I am really excited about this new adventure and will let you guys know how it goes - one of my favorite sayings -

You're never too old to have a happy childhood -

Probably won't be able to make the AR GTG but hope to make another in the future.

Thanks again for the warm welcome - seems like a really great group and I look forward to getting to know you all better.
