Aww, Barbie, I am so sorry to hear this. Because he was pawing at his mouth, I suspect a blockage by something he ate rather than pancreatic cancer. I would think that ferets can eat a lot of stuff they shouldn't.

We will all anxiously await an update whenever. Hugs to you and Buster.

Sorry this update is late but had to work until almost 10 tonight.

Buster does not have a blockage. He has insulinoma, or pancreatic cancer. He was having a seizure last night. A very strong one. I have never seen a ferret that sick from having a seizure before. Luckily, my ferret sitter, Virginia, suggested I give him some Karo syrup last night just in case, (it is used to pull them out of a seizure when their blood suger drops, just like with people) and that may have kept him from going into a coma which they rarely come out of.
I had Virginia pick Buster up from the vet this afternoon and bring him home for me, so I wouldn't have to leave him overnight. It cost me $300, but it could have been much worse for both me and Buster, so I am grateful he is doing better now.

He is now on prednisone to control the seizures. Unfortunately, ferrets don't live very long with this disease. Maybe 2 or 3 months at best. I will have to give him extra TLC from now on. He is such a sweet little guy! It was so hard last night to watch him going thru that and not be able to do anything about it! Really a very helpless feeling.

I am extremely tired tonight! Only got about 2 or 3 hours of sleep last night, then worked 8 1/2 hours today. Start at 9 tomorrow and work until 6. So another very long day and then another 7-9 hours on Sunday! It has been a little slower lately, so at least I get a few small breaks throughout the day! Going to bed now!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Ferrets are very suseptible to cancer. My first 4 ferrets all died of cancer. They start getting it around age 5 or 6, and Buster is 6 now. The most common types of cancer for them is adrenal, pancreatic, and lymphoma.

So sorry Barb...big hug for you and a gentle one for Buster. Hope the prednisone helps with the seizures.

Sorry the news wasn't better but know you are lovingly tending to him.
I do appreciate learning more about ferrets and their health issues.
Are ferrets in the wild as suseptable to the same cancers?

hang in there, girlfriend,,, both cuz of Buster and that dang shop owner. I am fortunate that i've never worked in any situation that was anywhere NEAR that stressful! When one is an independent contractor,, NO ONE tells us how to work! I haven't worked for someone in so long,,, decades, and never would again. In fact,, all the salons in our town are all booth rentals. I just do saturdays at a friend's shop and it's just me on that day doing MY clients. Sure spoils one! (course, after 40 + years,, how could I NOT be!) Best of luck finding a new and better salon in California!

love ya!
