I really don't like that you haven't been paid for work done - before this flood. There's laws, and doesn't feel legal to me that the pay isn't coming when it should be. Hope they aren't playing games with your pay.

It's the Army Corps of Engineers. I have to trust that my bosses are telling me the truth, Beth. They are contractors and I am a sub contractor, so when they get paid by the COE, they pay me. They say that they have 30 days from when they turn in our forms. Got paid on June 9th for May. If they don't open Cottonwood this weekend, I will have no paycheck for July! I'm seriously considering going to the food pantry. I don't eat much, but it could help. Been doing laundry at my mom's so I can see her at least once a week, but it is quite a drive and it costs me $50 to fill my gas tank. My DD and family will be coming this weekend to pick up GD, so if I'm not working by then, I will call my temp agencies and see what they have. The one blessing in this mess is that I don't have rent or utilities. If we don't reopen, I can still volunteer for my site.

It's morning now so I'll throw on a few logs to keep the fire going, but I'll pass on the beer until after noon ;)

Here is what I posted yesterday on the other campfire thread in case you missed it...

Beautiful day here today! Got some important things done today. I sent in a check to get my California Cosmetology license. I also bought that car top carrier from Craig's List, tonight. It is a good size and fits perfectly on my car. The guy even put it on for me, so now I know how to put it on and take it off myself. That will give me a lot more space for my trip to CA! Plus will save me over $700 not having to get a hitch put on and rent a trailer and use extra gas pulling it. I can use some of that extra money to replace anything I can't take with me.

I think Mitch and Vickie could both fit in there!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

I love it, Barbie!!! Glad you found one! I didn't realize you were doing that INSTEAD OF the trailer :o Good idea, though, for saving $ You should practice load it with what you plan to take so you know what you have to sell ;)

That's a great looking carrier. Did you hear about the kid in California who has been using Craig's List to trade items? He started trading a cell phone - and now has a sports card. Lots of work - and he actually traded down on the sports car. But can you imagine?

I may be trading or selling some more stuff on Craig's List here soon! That is how I sold my large household items. I love CL!!! I was having dinner with Barbie in MN when I sold my treadmill. I would like to know how to trade up to another motorcycle :D

time to relax, got a call last evening from one of the elderly ladies here in the park,
she needed an extra set of hands today to get some stuff done, so it was a work work
work day. Made some good money and word gets out as one of her neighbors had stopped
by briefly and so it goes, I've got next Tuesday booked already :D I just might be doing
more of this stuff, lots of these seniors don't drive and lots of them have "stuff" they
need hauled off to the goodwill. Soooooooooo, I'm busy, and I'm happy.

You got me thinking now, Ava ;) If I can't find a job this winter, there's lots of people fitting that description in Palm Springs!

What a day!!! It started out raining and ended raining! GD and I got the morning work done between showers. Had one downpour, but we were under cover. Lots of severe weather and even a tornado south of Des Moines. Weather radio was going crazy for awhile. I told GD that we would only run to the comfort station if there was a tornado warning and she agreed. It would be so hot in there :x The bad thing for us is the rising water...again! I'm so sick of this  I would love to attend the Branson GTG, but better not plan on it with this uncertainty.

I got my truck topper sold! A mechanic at my garage had mentioned, when I had them check over my truck when I got it in May, that he was interested in it if I decided to sell it. I called him and he still was! I hope to use that money toward a spray in bed liner, which my truck could really use! A farmer owned it before me and the bed is all scratched and getting rusty. Have a couple of other things I think I will list on Craig's List next week.

DD and the other GKs are coming tomorrow to pick up Maddie. They will spend the weekend and then I will be kidless again. It will seem so quiet :o We have it worked out for the girls to spend the night with Grandpa and DD and GS will stay in Myrtle with me. It is so wet for camping and mosquitoes may carry them away  GDs will think that's fun and GS will finally get to sleep in Myrtle, like he has wanted. Hope it doesn't spoil him ;)

Well, better get to sleep. Have to...or should I say, get to... get up and go to work in the morning :D I need to be counting my blessings! Keep the fire blazing, girls!

Just got to watch some great fireworks from my porch! They must have shot them off from the yacht club down the street, over the lake. Cool!

Another long 9 hour day at work with one more coming up! Made over $80 in tips today! We have a new guy (yes, guy!) starting at work. Maybe my manager will pick on him now and leave me alone! Actually, she has been better this past week.

The pills I got for Buster (prednisone), I have to give him 1/20th of a pill each day! The instructions are to split the pill into quarters, then crush and mix in some soft food, then divide the food into 5 equal parts and give him one part per day. Come on! Not sure how I am going to do that since won't eat anything but his kibble (and chocolate chip cookies!). I could mix it into cookie dough, but he is now banned from sweets, so no more cookies for him!

Still very tired so will be getting to bed soon here! Can't wait until Monday, when I can sleep in and catch up on my zzzz's!

Son is in town from NYC. He managed to make it over to see his GM which was the main reason to fly in on Friday. He will be heading out this afternoon. The visit was fairly brief. SM really doesn't "chat" with family well. And I had her come down in the wheel chair to the fancy sitting room. Ben had one hect of an allergy, sinus infection going on complete with coughing and nose blowing.....I fingured that SM was filled with antibiotics already and could make her own decision regarding possible exposure to "bugs" ...even though he has been on antibiotics for a couple of days now. There was no way I was letting him past the from room and back through the halls and risk the rest of Herschel's friends. He rested yesterday in the afternoon, visited with some friends by heading out the the last day of our county fair and as spent the rest of his time trying to feel human. He has declined any offers to visit cousins, uncles, etc and said that he might be able to take in a movie.....he really is too worn out to want to be "nice" in company. So, I am leaving him on the couch in the front room with the TV and his computer to pass his time. :D When he comes to Ohio from all the exciting places he travels and the things he sees....it does make me feel a little "backwoods" and we aren't even from KY! Ohio the hinterlands.....not much exciting happen around here...except family and friends. :)
Heading back to Dayton and the airport this afternoon...until next year. :)

I'm kidless again! Mixed emotions...I love my GKs, but it is nice to have my quiet space again ;) Had some great girl time with my DD over the weekend. The GDs went to spend the night with Grandpa and GS stayed here with me and DD. We had a campfire and s'mores before GS fell asleep in DD's lap. That left us basically alone to girl talk :D We don't get much of that quality time lately, so we stayed up too late, of course! Got up today and did my morning work and let them sleep. When they got up, we continued our girl talks. DXH brought the girls back after noon and the kids played and DD and I moved our visit outside. What a gorgeous day it was here...very comfortable!!! We painted each other's toenails and talked and relaxed. It was great :D I drove to Jimmy John's for supper with them before they all headed for home (Lincoln, NE). They got a late start so won't be home until around 11:00 tonight.

This end of the park is closed for now. When we were all taking a walk yesterday, we found a tree was blocking the road. I had to call the Ranger and they came out and cut a path. It was incredible! We stood there while I was calling and trees kept falling like dominoes. It makes me a bit paranoid, knowing all of the trees by Myrtle are standing in water, too  They are big, too!!!

Had to ask someone not to shoot of a rocket in the park tonight  Coudn't believe they would do that in a public area! It was a woman, man, and likely their teenage son. The parents were doing it and were trying to justify it and say there wasn't a propellant, etc. Right! That's why there was smoke, right? I had to actually explain that it was a safety hazard! What are people thinking? It amazes me the example people set for their kids  It's no wonder there is so much trouble with kids these days...especially with respect, etc.

Well, it's my big cleaning day tomorrow so better get to sleep! DXH is all crippled up in the back. Says he doesn't know what he did, but he doesn't look well. Might mean he won't be much help :(

I believe I'll set a spell here by the fire and feel the breeze thru the trees. What? Hey, it's my dream! Sip one of Lori's cold beers before the fire warms it... 90 bottles of beer.
