Possible RVer -- still thinking and investigating

Welcome! Hope you'll enjoy our forum as you make your own rving plans. Sounds like you have great dreams and enthusiasm....you'll do fine learning the necessities. It only takes a few mistakes to learn 'em pretty good. After a year's travel, you'll know if it's for you....if you love it like I do, you'll want to keep doing it ...to Alaska and beyond, or maybe Alaska again...oh, the possibilities!

Don't worry Judy, on the road you can park your behind in front of the computer just as easily. I mean, look at all the posts and blogs here.

And welcome to the forum. Lots of opinions here -- and lots of friendly disagreements. I am a single RV'er (except for my snotty dog) and drive a 35-foot Class A, dragging a Honda CRV behind. I did the scooter route and found that weather and darkness (I refuse to ride at night -- the drunks are out & my eyes aren't good enough) kept me MH-bound more than I wanted to be.

And in regard to "doing things" to/with the MH, I have a mantra: Everything operates properly when properly operated. The subtext to that is that I almost ALWAYS do it wrong the first time. Just how it is. And anything I break can be fixed. Usually by someone other than me.

Yes, when I started out driving these things I was terrified. But once I got my "road legs" ... driving that big rig is a blast. And NO, I don't travel without a washer/dryer. And I love traveling with MY kitchen, MY bed and MY bathroom. Everywhere I go, I'm home.

It sounds as if you have had a busy mental life, and are now making plans for a busier physical life. I am convinced that keeping moving is like greasing the old body joints! I hope to meet you down the line off some road somewhere!

Thanks. I have always tried to keep busy, but I do crash on weekends. My fear is that unless I have something to do, I will sit all day. Rving would keep me from doing that, I think, especially since I can still continue my teaching.

Judy, ditto what the others have said. I drive a 35' and tow a Chevy HHR. I don't think I could be w/out a tow vehicle but that is a personal choice. I don't enjoy camping either but I enjoy traveling and sightseeing and I love having my home with me and a place where I can take my furbaby, Sedona.

When challenging things come up I just take a deep breath and try to figure out how things work and try to tackle it. When I can't fix it, there is always someone who can. It's just like taking care of a house, it's just on wheels. I do suggest taking a good driving course and learn from a pro so it will increase your confidence and comfort level.

I enjoy having family come and stay and visit with me. Also my friends have managed to come visit when Ihave been at extended places. Someone said why don't you have them stay in a hotel, well, I want them there with me to experience my lifestyle and it wouldn't be the same it they were in a hotel. Personal choice.

Your lucky in that you have your online course you can continue to do on the road. I have met nurses who are on the road and they work wherever they are. I don't have a profession like that and am not sure I would do it anyway. I'm loving this lifestyle and I've only been doing it for 7 months and I don't see coming off the road anytime soon.

Hope you can get to one of our gtgs sometime. It's a great time to meet others who are veterans, wannabes, gonnabes and newbees.
