Janice, I posted yesterday and somehow, the post was lost in cyberspace.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your friend.
Someday, you'll be smiling as you remember his antics.

Janice, I have been there way too many times myself...It never gets any easier  I also feel that twinge of guilt each time, wondering if I did the right thing at the right time, but if you do it for them (and not for you), and with love, it is always right. We just have a hard time letting go when that time comes. But knowing that he is finally free, healthy and happy on the other side, makes it a little easier. Know that he is still with you tho in spirit.
You will also know when/if the time is right to get another furry companion. Some people get one right away and others need time in between before getting one, and then sometimes the new furkid will just show up in your life when you least expect it!
Sending healing thoughts your way for your broken heart!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Just saw this posting, Janice, so a belated sympathy hug goes out to you! So sorry to hear of your loss. I know Bandit will be missed dearly, but be at peace knowing he is in a better place now. I don't know anything about the rainbow bridge, but I believe our pets are waiting for us in Heaven :D Either way, he's in a better place and not suffering ;) If you are considering another, please adopt! What a great mommy for an orphan to have :D

I, too, just saw this post.....Huge Hugs to you, Janice.....Ernie & I know how hard that decision was.....and yes, by all means, when you are ready (it took us 6 yrs. after Sandy went over the Rainbow Bridge.) you'll find another special 4 legged furbaby to care for and love....like Spinner, who sends lots of puppy kisses to you....and let me tell you, he's very picky on who gets his puppy kisses.... ;)

I already am ... thanks so much everyone. He was a rascal in his younger days.

Kiwi is taking his loss very hard. She's largely stopped eating and is dropping weight -- which a 10-lb dog can't do too much of (actually 9.6 lbs now). So I'm working hard to get her appetite up. Now we're down to scrambled eggs and chicken w/white rice -- WHEN she'll eat it.

Janice, that's how I ended up wtih Peaches. Tips didn't handle it at all well when Moxie went to Rainbow Bridge. He weighed a lot more - but lost 10 lbs in about a week. So I started looking for someone else to rescue. I think Tips would have let himself die - but Peaches came in and helped. He had another good 7 or 8 months then (he was old also). And I have Peaches - which really helped me when Tips went to join Moxie.

Just a thought - don't know if you want 2 dogs - but sometimes that helps them.

Animals can have very close bonds with each other. I know of ferrets who die soon after a cagemate dies, and it is just from a broken heart. That is why I (and other ferret owners) usually have three ferrets, so that when one dies, the other two have each other and it isn't so hard on them. My two guys aren't that bonded so when Buster is gone, Moxy will be OK without him. Also, when I move, if my ferret-sitter takes them (if Buster is still here) they will have 5 other ferrets to play with and bond with. I am going to arrange a playdate with her ferrets and mine pretty soon, so we can see how well they all interact with each other.

Janice, give him lots of TLC and wait a couple more weeks to see if he comes around and starts eating again.

She ate a fair amount yesterday, and her bounce is starting to come back. So I'm hopeful. She was 11 lbs at one point, so 9.6 lbs is a huge loss for her overall body weight.
