I'm concerned about the dogs across the street, two beautiful boxers and the owner has left once again for the weekend apparently and the dogs are home alone. I don't know if this is legal or not but it sure isn't humane in my opinion. I doubt if animal control is available today being a Sunday and a holiday. He is a dentist and I would think he could afford to board them. This morning when I walked my dogs they weren't barking wildly at the window as usual, after an initial bark only one stayed at the window with its head on the sill just watching. I haven't heard them outside in the fenced in yard, (it's wood so can't see in) so don't think there is a doggy door. I can imagine the mess two big dogs like that will leave.
I can't be absolutely sure he isn't having someone come in but my dogs see everything and bark if a different car stops as we are on street with not that much traffic. This guy doesn't speak unless spoken to and I don't think any of the neighbors have talked to him since the storm last May.

Maybe I'm a bad doggie mommie, but I have left my dogs outside with food & water when I have gone away for the weekend. I've had neighborhood kids on other occasions put them in at night and let them out in the morning. I would take action if I can see dogs are being mistreated. But I don't see that from your description.

.Just being left alone doesn't mean the dogs are mistreated. My cousins dog is left alone to guard their house when they are gone. He is left plenty of food, and has newspapers in the basement when they leave. This dog takes this very seriously - I think he loves it when they leave and they tell him he's in charge.

On the other hand, if there is anything to lead you to believe they don't have food or water, etc - then you're better to act on the side of caution. You could probably call anonymously - or ask to be kept anonymous - and even say you don't know if they are ok or not, just concerned. I'd rather see the dogs safe than have concerns and not do anything and later learn something happened to them.

It's a real hard call without being there and knowing. Only you can make it.

It's about six PM now and someone is at the house! I'm so glad, I wouldn't have been so concerned except the dogs acted so strange this morning by not barking much at all. So guess all is well. Thanks for giving your thoughts!

Lots of ppl leave their dogs for the weekend. The reason they probably quit barking is that they are smart and figured out that was moot... ha! Only incessant and annoying dogs bark and bark and bark. Just my opinion. I'm also thinking that there was ample water and food and they are well behaved enough to not tear the house up when their family is gone. We can only HOPE.

But,, like you, if I feared abuse, id HAVE to do something. I can't STAND to see any of that! I'm sure you were relieved when you saw them come home,, or someone there. I know I would have been!
