I never did care for red sodas, but found this interesting:

I use to drink black cherry soda all the time as a kid. My father would sometimes let us kids "taste" liquor and put it in the soda. I couldn't taste anything and am thinking he lied, or the black cherry was such a strong taste one couldn't taste anything else. :D I thought it was Mogen David, anyway that is some seriously nasty stuff. I shutter thinking of the after taste. Definitely going to check the labels carefully from now on. Linda

I don't want to eat bugs, but believe me - you eat them all the time in fruits and vegies. And who knows what else. I'm hoping in this case they have cleaned or done whatever necessary to make sure they'll not hurt us.

That said - I watched either Dr. Oz or The Doctors on a show this week doing a segment on the stuff we put on our skin - and one of the things they mentioned to watch for was when the word "fragrance" appears - who the heck knows what that is. I try to always buy unscented, but some products they make that hard. But you're better off with one that says what the scent is from than when it just says fragrance.

I drank red soda as a kid - don't think I've had any for awhile, but would guess it is probably true for foods with red in them too?

I don't drink anything red luckily! Wasn't red dye #40 banned years ago because it was causing cancer? I guess a bug is better than cancer but still gross! (coming from one who ingests people's hair all day long! :o )
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

I haven't seen the aforementioned article yet, but to answer Barbie's question about the #40 red dye. I heard that our nation in the only one that hasn't banned the cancer causing dye!! Even the 3rd world countries have done so! Read the ingredients, it's in allot we ingest!

In other words, you can wear red, but don't ingest it! It will either creep you out or kill you!

..

FDA Defect Levels Handbook - The Food Defect Action Levels
Levels of natural or unavoidable defects in foods that present no health hazards for humans

The far right is the amount that would produce action by the FDA.
I was nice and didn't include the levels for chocolate. :o
