So glad I found you

Come on in and say hello.

So glad I found you

Postby ready2go » Wed Sep 10, 2008 8:49 am

I sold my house in June and moved into my RV. I lost track of a lot of you about that time and was not sure what happened. Alice gave me the new forum address. Beth are staying out of Ike's way. I have been thinking about you a lot. For those of you who were not on the other forum, My name is Karen. I retired in Aug after a 44 year career in nursing and am now a full timer. I travel with my little Westie, Maggie Mae. I guess my half time home will continue to be in Florida as that is where my grown children live. Right now, I have my cousin with me for 3 weeks and we are exploring VA and PA. Got my first nail biting, hair raising, white knuckle ride up a mountain with hair pin turns. It was like Mr. Toads Wild Ride. Not something I want to do too often. It looked so close to I81 on the map, little did I know it was straight up. Still, I am enjoying the lifestyle tremendously. Glad I found you all. Karen

Hi Karen,
I'm so glad you found us also! And glad to hear that you're traveling like you dreamed.

I'm evacuating this afternoon, so yes, plan to be off the coast, not sure that I'll get completely out of Ike's way - but won't get his full force, at least!

How long are you going to be up there? I believe a couple people are trying to do a mini gtg in PA in a couple weeks.

Oh, and since you're full time, you need to check into our TX GTG the beginning of Nov. You'll also have lots of opportunities to meet folks and do gtg's in FL over the winter, I'm sure.

Enjoy all here - use all the rooms - make yourself at home and meet the folks you don't know.

Karen,

Welcome! This is a great site!!!
The books "Mountains East" and "Mountains West" are good companions doing the mountains. They are available at Camping World, some truck stops and also places like Amazon and more!! They tell you the % of the grades, the mph on the curves and what kind of road it is. They also occassionally let you know you DO NIOT want to take an rv on that road. I used it when I went out west and wouldn't want to be in the mountains in an rv without them personally.

Congratulations on your retirement!!!

I will only be in PA about 8 days. This is full-timing for me, but vacation for my cousin so we are trying to get in the sites for her. I plan to take it much slower when it is just me. I will be in FL from Nov 1 to end of April, so hope I can get to one of the get togethers then. I will be about the same distance from Gainesville and Ocala FL.

yeah! Glad you got here Karen. If you get to the northeast while you are traveling around full time, do contact me. You can PM me through this forum. I'm in the Adirondack Mt. region of NY and would love to GTG with you. Mark it on the map. But for now I'm sure you'll head to warmer climes for the winter,.... Glad you are with us!

Welcome Karen. Glad to have you here. As Barb said, I will be at Ferryboat Campsites (.com) October 16th thru 19th, camping with my GD. Sister and her hubby may come along and Kelpie may try to join us. Nothing formal...just that I'll be there and would love to meet any of the Sistahs from this forum at any time. If you'll be in the area during that time frame, look us up.

Again, welcome.

Karen, I'm glad you found us! We're free and easy here and it's a lot more relaxed. Put your feet up and join us at the campfire. I look forward to hearing about your adventures on the road.

When I read about Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, you only talked about the UPhill. Was there an equally sphincter-clenching descent?
