What Do You Cook On?

Postby Colliemom » Tue Jun 29, 2010 8:15 pm

I was reading down through some old posts and after reading about how Christine made her own stove top cover (an idea which I have been thinking of for over my stove), I got to wondering, just what everybody cooks on. I for one don't plan to use stove much if at all. Will use my George Foreman grill, a small electric skillet (when I find one), my BBQ grill and an electric hot plate and the micro. How about you gals out there?

I mostly use the microwave and sometimes the crockpot. I do however use
the stove when I do up a roast or chicken in the pressure cooker. I have
a little george foreman grill but I really don't care for the grease drippings
so I only use that on occasion. I have a panini maker and I love grilled
sandwiches but with the summer heat and my budget I haven't bought the
makings for sandwiches lately.

I have an electric skillet which I love and a George Forman grill. I also have the baby George which is a rotesserie (sp) and came as a set with the grill. I use these 3 and the BBQ the most. I am a sloppy cook in the house and hate cleaning the stove top, so don't use it often. :D Linda

I use the stove most, but also the Weber Q. I haven't used the oven in this RV yet, but did use the one in our old HR, especially when we were living in there.

So far I've used the microwave and the toaster oven only in my rig. I agree on the leftover grease/clean up when using the George Foreman grill so haven't thought about taking it.

I use the stove and microwave because I have very little counter space for appliances. When i stay in one spot for more than a couple nights I do have a small crockpot to use.

I boondock a lot - when boondocking, I'm not connected to electric and am not going to connect if unnecessarily - plus I like using a gas stove - so use the stove quite a bit. For grilling, when I have electric, I use my George Foreman. I don't use the microwave a lot - for thawing - and now that I have the micro/convection, when I have electric, I use the convection quite a bit.

So, my cooking depends on whether I have hookups or not - and then, whether I'm paying separately for electric. I am frugal :)

I use my toaster oven a lot... it is large enough to cook in... only use my cook top for eggs or something small... I also have a small George Forman grill I use... I have a grill for outside it uses the small gas bottle... take only a few pans... and I have used my 8 x 8 pan... the first time I had to borrow one from Liz...
but soos has the best idea... a glass of wine and a piece of cheese... (my glass would have to be root beer as I do not drink)
happy camping

Micro, toaster/oven/broiler, George, and once in a blue moon the crockpot. Seldom use the stovetop and never use the oven. I don't get a lot of grease from George - I only use lean meat, I guess.

WE mostly use our camp chef stove, it is outdoor 3 burner one.
Then the dutch oven either with charcoal or on the propane stove (it depends if there is an safe place to dump ashes.
We rarely cook inside the trailer. The kids will microwave popcorn and heat up something for lunch.

Hello,

Good question.

I have only been on three camping trips, thus far. I have used the stove in the RV for cooking breakfast (both times it was raining outside, so I had no choice :-( ). My microwave has been used for heating water for tea. Outside, I use a small table top propane grill for grilling. I also have an electric skillet and crockpot, but haven't used it yet.

I think you'll also find a difference in how the cooktop is used, based on how your rv is used. As a full-timer, I use mine like I would a kitchen in a house, therefore use it more (even if I don't cook as often as some). Those who use their rigs to "camp" will more often cook outside. I make soups and stews, etc on my gas stove. If you are going for a week trip, you might never cook like I do.

I'm like Beth I live full time in my 5th wheel so use it all the time and don't have enough room for the extra gadgets. I like to use the bbq when cooking meat but that doesn't always happen! in fact it hasn't happened since we have been in Island Park... :( weather hasn't been right for it...
I even use my oven bake cakes on up to cinnamon rolls
So it truly depends upon how you use your rv and other conditions

 Lori's Full-timing cooking musts....
1. One electric skillet
2. One crockpot (but I do have 2 now..regular size and a Qt. & 1l2 size)
3. Microwave
4. Convection/toaster oven....(when we get our next 5er, am getting a Microwave/convection combo ;) )
5. Small grill ( for Ernie...he loves to cook...)
We never use our oven....it's our breadbox.... ;)
For the last 6 years, this has worked for us just fine....We use our stove top alot, but as others have stated, when you full-time, the kitchen area gets alot of use.....
