Hello Ladies,

Do any of you belong to discount camping clubs (ie Passport America, etc)? What are your opinions about membership in this type of club?

We are members of Good Sam and Passport America. The campground discount for Good Sam is very minimal, but I like the magazine, so that will continue. The Passport America gives good discounts on campgrounds, when I remember to use it. :) Lately, I've just been looking up state parks because we also get a discount (usually 50%) with Ronnie's handicap.

I have always had a membership with Good Sam and Passport America. Rarely use the GS discount - but (except for last year) have always got my money back in one or two cg visits with Passport America. (Last year was different - with MX and Alaska, and boondocking or monthlies most of the rest of the time).

I love to boondock and to stay in state/fed parks, etc. But when I look for laundry, etc - I check the Passport cg's and stay a day or two to get caught up. Once my back hurt and I found a good Passport park with a whirlpool to soak in :)

Love Passport America. Haven't used it in awhile, but I'm a lifetime member so it doesn't cost me to keep. Sorry, gals, they don't offer those memberships any longer, but even the regular price is a bargain.

Sharon and I stayed exclusively in PA parks for our whole Texas trip and had good luck with just about all of them. Over the years I've also found some horrid ones, but that's part of the RV experience!

I'm also a lifetime member of Good Sam (for years), belong to a local Chapter that is like family and we camp once a month. Also belong to FMCA (Family Motorcoach Assn), but didn't join a chapter, just love their magazine and go once a year to their Regional rally. Magazine alone is worth the membership.

Had Coast to Coast membership for years. Used it a lot on our long journeys, but never did make it pay for itself what with extremely high purchase and membership dues. I let it lapse after my DH died.

I finally purchased a Passport America this past year when I got to a place financially that I knew I would be traveling more. (Also bit the bullet for the air card for the same reason.) Nick Russell's comment about PA parks are that many of them are not what one might consider destination spots. But they generally provide good value for your money, with electric, water, etc. and as Beth pointed out...clean laundry is nice.

I have already broke even or more and I don't/haven't traveled much.
