THORSDAY WITH NAMESAKE THUNDER PREDICTED

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

THORSDAY WITH NAMESAKE THUNDER PREDICTED

GOOD MORNING TO ALL!

Another overcast, rainy day, after a night of more heavy rains. Will have to check the rain gauge when I leave this morning.

We had an earthquake here yesterday afternoon. I was sitting here in the house at this desk top computer when all of a sudden it felt as if the house were caught in a spinning tornado! The roof went one way, and the floor beneath my feet went in another direction! The ceiling beams and roof beams (and they are HUGE----about 4" X 9" heavy-duty beams) began making the snapping noises they sometimes do in a very heavy wind. It began with a sudden THUD and then the warping, twisting and shaking, with the floor feeling as if it was rolling. I grabbed Molly and went out onto the porch to allow the shaking and rattling to stop. It took about another 30 to 40 seconds to quit the unstable movements. Earthquakes always make me wish I had wings to take to the skies! It was about the 4th one I have felt since I have lived up here in the Adirondacks. Always leaves me with a new appreciation of how untrue our feeling about 'good old solid ground' is.

No tests today at school, no kids at all, but we teachers have to make an appearance to satisfy the taxpayers/school board. Thundershowers are predicted for today, and I so hate those. It's really dark out and getting windy. I would much rather stay right here, and, in fact, I may do just that. Molly has had a sick stomach for about two to three days now, and I may make an appointment at the vet's for her. She has always had a weak digestive system, but this seems to be lasting longer than usual. Yep---the skies just opened up again, and I am putting on some warm jammies and getting on the sofa until sometime later! Why go out and drive in that stuff for nothing? If I go to the vet's, I can stop by later at school.

Glad that Liz made it safely to Beth's and Jean's. I wish I could be there to be with them all, too.

I also hope someone can make that new AC work properly so it will drain. I will have to ask Issy how she gets hers to drain, as I am quite sure she just bought a portable one for Dick while he is recuperating from open heart surgery. I know I saw a bucket with a hose in it the one day I looked at it, and the flexible intake hose went out through the house, somehow. Her windows are like mine, and open on crankouts, so she can't use a window model, as an RV can't use window models, either.

Off to the couch I go to keep Molly company during these torrential downpours this morning! Stop by and tell us the latest in your part of the world! Coffee is hot, and I'm about to get another cup for myself.

Soos I think you are so ready! The greatest gift in retirement are the many times you can say to yourself, "well, I was going to do such and such but then decided that I could do it later/tomorrow/next week/never.... because...something better came along/I didn't really want to to begin with/it can wait...... :) :) Have fun exploring the many possibilities. There will be enough things that still need to be done to let your feel like a reponsible person. ....But more of your choices can be "because Molly said it was a good idea!"

Off to work for me......house is still not straighten up enough for company this weekend....oh well.....

We getting a bit of a reprieve from the heat today thankfully I just read in the paper that our May & June temperatures have been among the hottest months in 100 years. So far this month the first 23 days had above average humidity and 21 had temps of over 89. Lately it has been more like 98!
Has anyone clicked on the USMLE links that are posted everywhere on the forum, I didn't as suspect it is to a virus.
There is a lovely cloud cover outside, sure would like to see rain, but you can keep the earthquakes Soos!
This is one of those mornings I wish for the absence of guilt so I could go out and consume biscuits & gravy with an egg over easy and several cups of non-decaf coffee at the local greasy spoon! A habit I indulged myself in for many years until my reformation!

Good Morning... oh my it was very bad here last night... I was in a meeting and the storm started... where was my umbrella? ha ha ha at home of course... the storm did not let up... by the time I got to my car I was soaked to the skin... was going shopping but instead went to the local gas station store... got soaked again... got my milk... and again got soaked... wow got soaked again after I got home... get the picture?? the rain stopped for about a half hour then started again with a vengeance... when I looked out on the deck this morning as the sun light was coming over the trees I saw a container I had dumped yesterday afternoon it is about 5 to 6 inches deep... well it was running over with rain water... wonder how much we actually got...

Soos I saw that the center of the earth quake was a 5.0 in Canada quite a strong one for places that do not normally get them... glad you are all together and that the earth did not open up and swallow you and molly...

my oh my I sure hope none of you are lost in the lines for the iphone 4... I am not into that...

One more week then my daughter Jackie and granddaughter Sekana will be here... so looking forward to seeing them...

Today I will vacuum... never gets completely done... will either shop today or tomorrow...
Hope you all have a great day

I'm late again as usual. Slept unti 11 am. Then my laptop decided to do an overhaul so that took some time, so in the meantime I ran into town to do some errands. It is a very nice day today, but there must have been a fire nearby overnight as it is very hazy/smokey around here.

Soos, I read about your earthquake last night and wondered if you felt it up there. Guess you did!! Wow, you not only have to put up with nasty cold, snowy winters, but ALSO earthquakes?! I am trading one for the other. Couldn't handle both. Do you get tornadoes around there too? (Looks like your "U" key got knocked all the way over to your "O" key on your keyboard!  ). I read that Calexico, CA was moved 2 1/2 feet south from that Easter earthquake!

Should get my new tent and sleeping bags today from Fed Ex! Yay! I actually have the whole weekend off from work so I will set the tent up and waterproof it at my dad's (and check his attic for the rest of my camping things). Can't wait to see how it looks all set up and see how much room is inside!

Got a few more things to do here before going to my cousin's wake. Am picking up another cousin of mine who doesn't drive, and taking her with me.

Hope you all have a great day!

PS> Soos, maybe Molly is reacting to the earthquake. They know days in advance that one is coming so that might just be her problem.
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Woo-hoo Soos! That must have been exciting. I've been in a couple of earthquakes and don't want to do so again. LOL.
