The Twilight Series

Postby Paulette » Wed Jun 23, 2010 7:55 am

DGD and I have been reading the Twilight Series. I haven't seen the movies, and don't know that I will. Books are so much better than the movies 99% of the time. Anyway, the reason I read the series was because I wanted to make sure that the content was suitable for an 11 yo. It's such a popular series and she had been bugging me to allow her to read them, so this was my compromise. ;) I don't know that I would have read them if she hadn't been bugging. But Stephanie Meyer is a good author in that she really pulls you into the story and compels you to continue reading to the very end. As far as the topic (vampires and werewolfs), not really my cuppa tea.

So, if anyone was on the fence about reading them, I'd say go for it. They weren't "scary", it's more of a love story than anything.

Just my 2 cents worth.

I haven't seen the movies either, just haven't seemed that interesting to me, but glad you and DGD are enjoying the books together! I agree that the written word is best, allows the imagination to soar.

Myself and both my siblings, but especially my sis and I were and still are avid readers. My mom would let us take out and read anything - no matter what it was - as long as we were willing to discuss it with her afterwards. I guess the discussing part kept either of us from x-rated (no ratings back then, but you know what I mean) stuff. Great that you are reading with her - and great that she wants to read.

I have read the series and really enjoyed all four of them. I couldn't put it down, once I started reading them. It was not something I would have normally read, but was highly recommended to me by my sister. I did see the movie, but agree the books are so much better.

OK, I need to read or see a movie to see what all the hoopla is about. When I grew up Vampire movies were scary and they just wanted to drink your blood - Bela Lagosie, etc. OMG, I'm getting old!!!
