Wasing & Waxing your RV and Washing & Conditoning RV Roof

Postby cpatinjones » Tue Jun 22, 2010 2:14 pm

Hello Ladies,

1) Do you wash and wax your own RV or pay to have it done? How often?
2) Do you wash and conditon your RV roof or pay to have it done? How often?
3) What brand of product(s) do you use (if performing the tasks yourself)? Any recomendation?

I washed and waxed my RV for the first time last Sunday afternoon. Since, I am scared of heights, my stepson clean and conditon the roof of my RV. The wash/wax product was combined, as well as the clean/condition product. Needless to say, it was a job. I will do it again, I think. :)

I have yet to do my motorhome and will definately pay someone else to do it. Way too big a job for me. Not sure where to start to find someone, tho.

I rinse mine and use something to wipe it down occasionally, but pay to have it done right - usually once a year. Others will say you should do it more often. When I was on the Gulf Coast, I had it washed and waxed at 6 month intervals - what they recommended. Also had them do an undercoat for me, even tho my rig was old because I know that salt air is dangerous.

If you have a decent truck wash near - the ones I really like are Blue Beacon - they wash it inexpensively and do a good job - at least have every time I've used them. When I see one of them, my rig gets washed more often :)

We pay someone once a year to wash, wax and roof treatment. Mostly because we can't bring the trailer home, do to short driveway and the big tree. I could get in her, but coming back out would be a different story. So therefore we pay to have it all done in the spring.

Now with that, we do a couple of times during the season, wash the outside, when a place allows it. If not, I just do my best to wipe it down.

Hope gets washed several times a year, whenever I go on a trip. I use that Mr. Clean thing that rinses with soft water so you don't have to dry, then I do the windows with windex or whatever window cleaner I have if they look a little spotted. When I did the Alaska trip I washed her 3 or 4 times with a bucket, microfiber cloth and that no rinse soap. I wax her once a year, half one day and half the next. Sometimes take 3 days if I get side tracked or tired. Roof just gets scrubbed when I wash her, no conditioner or wax.

Like Sharon I use the Mr. Clean set-up for both my car & my RV. I usually wash the RV whenever I'm leaving on a trip or when it looks like it needs it in between. However I do pay a company to come out and wash & wax her at least once & sometimes twice a year. The cost the last time was $375.00.....so you can understand why I try to keep her up myself. This year due to the fact that my RV repair company has just offered inside storage for $6.00 per ft, she will be stored inside whenever I'm not using her. There's no contract & the storage area is not that far from my home. At least I won't have to worry about getting a ticket or having her towed away anymore. My RV is 26'10" long and if parked in my driveway, sticks out 10" into the sidewalk....got a heavy duty WARNING from the city about that...Then when I've parked it in front of my house, I've gotten another warning that limits same to 3 days & the next ticket would be mailed to me, as they would have towed the RV away by then. The $162 a mo. that I'll be paying won't be easy to pay, but a whole lot cheaper than tickets & towing fees....(Sorry to get off subject....) 8-)
By the way.....the Mr. Clean set up works pretty darn good...... :P

Humm...I didn't know there was auto/RV products by Mr. Clean. I will have to research that product.

Thanks for all the replies.
