We had a nice, mostly steady rain all night long, which we really needed. If it clears up today, I will be mowing after school again. My lilacs, which I managed to see open at the top of the bushes (they were frozen and died at the bottom of the bushes) are now gone by, although I have one vase of them still smelling pretty in the trailer. On our walk yesterday, Molly and I took notice of the blueberry blossoms which are doing really well, so far. If the bees (very few of them, I have noticed) and butterflies and breezes have done their jobs to spread their pollen, perhaps the crop will be good this year. I know they will ripen earlier than usual due to the month of May being warmer than usual in spite of the cold, frosty nights we had.
My little cub was spotted alive yesterday, crossing a road near where she and her mom used to hang out in earlier, happier times, but then quickly disappeared into the woods again and hasn't been seen since. They have left some special bear formula out in pans along with other healthy bear treats where they used to nurse with hopes that Hope will find the nourishment and survive in the wilds by herself. She is only 4 months old. She is one feisty little bear to have survived the rain and nearly freezing temperatures of the night before last. I can only hope for Hope at this point.
I have two unused personal days I will be taking off during the last week of school, as I will never be compensated for those, and my kids don't have to come back to school after a week from Monday unless they will be taking some exams. Teachers are supposed to be there regardless of whether they have kids, or not. Some are scheduled to proctor exams, but not teaching assistants. What a boring couple of last weeks! Our final 'field trip' of the year will happen a week from tomorrow---we will be bused to the mall and WalMart in Plattsburgh to shop and eat lunch, where the kids will be able to spend the money they earned throughout the year selling wreaths and rustic signs at Christmas, doing odd jobs and chores for the school, like planting flowers and bushes, laundry for sports teams, recycling chores, and more. They are very excited about getting to go to the 'big city' as many of them never get out of Saranac Lake.
