FYI..sometimes do NOT look up the event..

We were camping this weekend in the little town of Sumas, WA population about 1000 people.
We did discover the best kept secret in the county so that is a plus..a Mexican Food place...but thus not the reason for this post.
DS last game ended about 8:10 pm on Sunday night. We had permission to go ahead and camp over one more night..(yeah no backing the trailer into the storage area in the dark).

So we headed back over to the trailer, then were trying to decide..go out to eat or just run to the store and get a steak.
While deciding this and chatting with our Friend Linda and her girls that came out to watch DS's last game of the weekend.
The police cars, border patrol cars start coming into town with lights and sirens. So my GF and her girls head for home. Dh and I decide to go to the store and get the steak, as we have no idea what is going on.
(This community sits right on the border). So we naturally think it must be something at the border.
Then an ambulance and rescue car head out of town lights and sirens going.
DH goes to the store picks up some things and asks the store clerk. He says, it is mostly Border Patrol and County cars..thinks it is something to due with the border.
DH comes back..police cars are still rolling into town.
Then my GF calls and ask's if we have any idea?? Not really, she said the Ambulance went past her, then she passed it again, where it had met up with another ambulance and they unloaded and reloaded someone and it headed back our way.
Soon enough the ambulance came back with lights and sirens.
In all we saw County Police Cars and Police Cars from the two area communities, Everson and Lynden.

I am really hoping that it was not something serious as in one of our border guards, police officer had an altercation.

We get home and I have to check the news websites to figure out what happened..

Did the link not post...dang..it is showing up on mine.

But let me try and cut and paste the text of the article.

SUMAS, Wash. - A standoff turned deadly in the small town of Sumas as the SWAT team had to go inside to help a woman in distress.

Police say this all started when someone called from inside the home Sunday night at 8:30, saying they were being threatened.

"Officers arrived on scene they will able to hear some noises in the house that concerned them they attempted to make entry they were met with resistance from the suspect inside," said Chris Haugen, Sumas Police Chief.

Officers were able to convince the man to let a toddler in the home out safely and she was passed out the window to the arms of an officer.

But when they asked to have the woman come out witnesses say the man panicked.

"The man was saying 'it's over' to the policeman and this and that, he said it's too late," said witness Bryan Beld.

Police and paramedics then rushed into the house and brought the woman out on a stretcher. She was taken to a Bellingham hospital, where she died a short time later.

By this time the situation had become a standoff.

"He made some references to having weapons in the house so officers retreated," said Haugen.

When negotiations to have the man come out peacefully failed the SWAT team threw in chemicals that forced him out. He was arrested and taken to jail.

Neighbors say they sensed there was trouble in the house and wished someone could have intervened before it got to this.

The toddler was not physically hurt and is now with child protective services. Police have not yet released the names of the victim and the suspect in this case.

The police chief says this is the first murder in Sumas since he joined the police force in 1988.

yes, the link worked and I read the rest of the story,
that happens a lot here, in domestic squabbles, police don't
mess around. That poor little girl is now without both parents.
I hope she has relatives that can raise her.

I forgot to say welcome home Kris, hope you had a great time.

Such a tragic story! Especially now for the child who had to witness that and deal with it emotionally (I love how they say "the child was unharmed. Yeah, right!". Too bad that no one intervened earlier since the police were aware of the domestic violence going on there from previous visits. Why do they always send the children back into those violent situations (read about that from a comment below the article)? It never ends well for anyone.

Those types of things can happen anywhere, even near where you are camping! Gives a bad feeling to an otherwise nice weekend. I just heard a ton of police cars with full lights and sirens going past my place a couple hours ago, but I will probably never hear what that was all about. Usually don't.

Now I see the link. There are WAYYYY too many stories along that same line. A very wise person once said,, 'some ppl just shouldn't breed!'! SO SO true! the rest of THAT saying is,,,(i added this) and those that shouldn't are the ones that usually DO!
