Good Sam Balloon Festival - Sept 2010

On Sept 14 thru 19th, in Gallup New Mexico, at Red Rock park, there is a balloon festival/rally. Is anyone interested in meeting me there for a GTG?

My plans are in jello. I can stay here in SC thru Oct if I want to. RVW is having a rally the end of Oct in Mesa AZ that I'm also considering. Too soon to make up my mind.

Dang, Karen - I wish I could, too, but that's the third weekend and my camping group's first campout after 3 months of being dark! Someday . . .

I went to the RVW Convention in San Antonio and had a blast if that will help you make up your mind. I wish I could go this year but that would be almost a 2 week trip for me and I just can't be gone that long. My son is talking about moving back so if he is around to help his dad and keep him out of trouble I might be able to make longer trips.

I'd sure head out there for the BalloonFest if I could. Right now I'm planning to head north and do a 40 year class reunion, then further north and visit with my former employers and employees, then northwest and visit with my sis and more of my past - planning to be there by the end of Sept. The Balloon Fest I really want to attend again is the one in Quechee, VT. Any of you out east this summer - check when it is - it's small enough to really be part of it all. And the area is gorgeous, too.

Checked it out - sounds fun BUT it says no dogs on festival grounds - does that mean in your RV or what? The wonderful thing about Red Rock park is that the balloons go up all around you. They're so close and you can walk amongst them while they are inflating. Just too cool.

Your rv can't be on the balloonfest grounds at Quechee, either. I was able to park mine in the lot with both dogs in it - could not stay the night. The lot is right next to the grounds, and you can come and go. They have some spots that have to be reserved way in advance (and probably expensive) for rver's for the weekend. The regular parking lot is just for the day/evening. I met another woman rver and we spent one afternoon/evening. Then drove to Walmart across the state line in NH and spent the night before heading back our own ways.

Just went to the Quechee site - and the rv registration ($150 for 2 nights - 7 rv sites still available) allows people to have dogs, but they have to stay in the parking area. Same as mine had to in the parking lot. If I wanted to go for more days, I'd drive back and forth to Walmart for that price. But then would probably never be there for the morning lift. I think the best time at Quechee (IMO) is Friday night. Was the best balloon glow I've seen.

Darn, one of these days I'll make it to the balloon festival. I remember I tried last year, but I think it was later in the year. Sorry, won't be able to get down to Silver City while in NM.
