I use a combo of the nail clippers and a dremel (battery recharge-able so that I don't have to fidget with a cord) and the actual pet nail sander which I picked up more recently. My dogs find the sanding LESS stressful...as in I don't nick the quick as often. You can see quick coming as you continue to shape the nail. I will often tip them with the clippers to take off much of the nail and then sand to get as close to the quick as possible for as short a nail as possible. The dremel also rounds off moore of the scratchy edges. I like the regular hobby dremel (blue with rechargeable battery) its motor is powerful enough to do the trick but if coat hair should get caught up in the spin, the engine stops before pulling the hair out and you can turn the machine off quicky and unwind the hair. I think it takes off more than the Pet designed sanders. Years ago I tried an electric full powered dremel and it was too powerful. It yanked out a section of hair before freezing up the motor. Dog at the time was not happy with me.....

Apparently no issues with the Saran wrap - everything "moving" normally.

I use the Pedipaw sander thingy on Sassy and Buddy. Does take a while but they just sit there thru it all. Good idea Tina, I may go get a Dremel. However, Sophie won't let me near her with it either, even if its turned off and not making any sound. She's at the vet's right now being sedated to get her nails clipped. The other day I did try a tranquilizer on her. Didn't help at all. I HATE having to leave her for several hours just to get her nails clipped. I will continue working with her and handling her feet but who knows what her background is in that department.

Sophie, Sophie, Sophie -
What is Mom going to do with you????
Maybe your name should be Bandita!
Karen, years ago I had a boxer who had all the skills of Sophie. I ended up putting mouse traps on the counter, with a string tied to the "killer bar" - so the feet would not get snapped - but the suprise and the sound cured my big bandit very quickly.
Good luck!!

I once had an Afghan Hound that would open the refrigerator! He once ate a whole turkey carcass (with meat left on it) and a blackberry pie! Took him to the vet, but luckily he had no problems from the bones. We ended up putting a hasp lock on it to keep him out.
