Welcome to the forum. For my two cents worth, slides are ABSOLUTELY ABSOLUTELY ABSOLUTELY worth it. Just the couple of extra feet in a room make the world of difference.

I had a class C with no slides, and two SKINNY little closets on either side of the queen bed in the back. And I discovered very quickly that if I am living in it for months at a time I need wardrobe space. The addition of a bedroom slide allows builders to add closets, even in smaller rigs.

And when I have a sewer hookup, I use my W/D all the time. It's one of those that you put dirty clothes in and take clean dry clothes out -- all in one unit. Sooo cool.

Welcome! I have a Class C with one slide. Well worth the extra space, but I do get nervous wondering what to do if it doesn't come back in. The directions for manual operation look like a nightmare. As others have said, I wouldn't get a washer and dryer, even if I full-timed. I bought much bigger than I thought I would need, but it worked out since my son, dog, and parents usually come with me.

Happy hunting!

Hello, and congratulations for your decision in "jumping in" to full timing :-) My daughter (7) and I are about to full time as well, starting when she gets out of school for the summer (you can read more about our adventure in my travel blog--the link is posted under my signature). We're actually heading to your neck of the woods (a bit north of there, in Sprinfield)--maybe we could meet up sometime!

As far as your (still aparrent, tentative) decision to full time, I say life is short, and go with your gut! This is an adventure you're setting out on! Looking forward to hearing all about it!

Hello and welcome,, although I don't really feel entitled to act like a member,, 'cept that i have been since,, i don't remember when. I am not an RV owner, yet, as I'm still caring for my aged parents. But I'm with all of them in spirit and , like you, am waiting and yearning for my time on the road on my own! Guess you'd call me a "wannabe".

These gals are chock full of wisdom and know how about RV's and they are only too happy to share and advise. That's why I love this forum so much, albeit that i am sometimes absent from here for days or weeks at a time,, depending on the goings-on of my household.

The thing that we all love is to see your pictures so, my advice (ha!) is to familiarize yourself w/ the modes of posting pics. The more knowledgeable ones on here will advise you on that as well.

Happy rv hunting and happy trails to you when you get one!

hugs and happiness to you ,,,

Welcome,

Anxious to hear more as you shop about and consider rigs. Seems to me it's all about what YOU need for your kind of comfort. In my old class C, I used the shower as a hanging closet and had a huge metal bowel which I heated water in on the stove and took sponge baths outside on my prayer rug (I boondocked in forests). Used the bed over the cab for my cats to sleep and lived/slept in my dining table turned into a bed and took the couch out completely. Worked great for me and my dogs and cats.

With the other women, washer and dryer a real drain on all resources. Not sure that they come in smaller rigs anyway.
One of the fun things, I think, about r.v. living is to get real simple. Simple is freeing. A couple of uniforms go a long way in traveling, ones you can wash out yourself and have drying overnight outside or in the bathroom.

I"m very excited for you and us now that you are giving voice.

Well Ladies, I was able to do a little window shopping this weekend. The weather was lousy here in Nashville. Seems we are meant to get a year's worth of rain in one month. I visited Cullom & Maxey where I went in and out of 6 rigs before a salesman even spoke to me. I was not too impressed. Didn't really see what I am looking for there. Bankston RVs had a nice Dutchman that was pretty close but I'm not in love yet - not even ready to date really.

Had to run some errands east of town so I stopped in a place called Campers Corner just as it was about to rain. They are set up in an old car sales lot and actually have a few rigs in the showroom. I was drawn to a 23 footer and just as I stepped inside a salesman came along. Actually he was very informative and answered a lot of questions. I am leaning toward the diesel engine for the pulling power up the hills as I do hope to travel out west again. My husband and I spent a month in Wyoming and Colorado one summer and I just loved the scenery.

The 23 footer didn't have a bed except for over the cab, foldout couch, and dinette fold down. Oh, and the couch was in a slide. The slide was out so I folded the couch down and climbed up, stretched out, and propped up against the corner while I asked more questions. Bad news: good news - the 23 footer was already sold but the salesman was from the little town in southwest TN that I call home so we had a nice chat and he gave me a lot of good info about fulltiming.

So, girls, I'm still shopping! Took a break this week to write final exams for my kids and finish some repairs on the house and yard from flood damage. Will try to shop some more this weekend. Keep those ideas coming!

Sounds like a fun day shopping, Vickie, in spite of the rain. The more different layouts you see, the better idea you'll have of what will work best for you.....especially as you "try out" the beds etc. & imagine yourself living in it.

Welcome...Welcome....yep, you've found a place to ask questions ;) And among the crew here you'll get lots of Ideas and answers.....

Yes, a slide is a must for the extra foot or 2....especially on rainy days where you end up inside the RV alot....we have a tub with shower...tub measures about 3 ft. in length...our grand-daughter loves it cause it's "just her size"... we use the shower in our 5th wheel.....as has been said...washer/dryer are a personal option, if your rig is big enough to house them....but we've been full-timing 6 yrs. come this August and have had no problems with the laundries in the campgrounds and the occasional local laundromat....and like others have stated....we get 2 days wear out of an outfit as space for clothes is usually limited....by all means, take your time shopping and look at everything out there....when you find your "house on wheels" you'll know it.... ;)

DISAPPOINTING: Saw an ad on Craig's list for what looked like a good deal but all it said was "1996 Ford RV" which really didn't say much but the pix looked good so I called and made an appointment to go see it after school today. Well, it really was nice especially for a 96. Only 16,000 miles and well cared for. But no slides and it was 31'. I really want to stay at 25 or 26 and I think the slide is a good idea. Plus the dinete was on the wrong side. Oooh, sounds like my want list is coming together. This RV had a queen bedroom in the back with a walk around bed which for me is just wasted space and an extra 6 feet that I don't need. The storage part of it I liked but I don't want it bad enough to forfeit the luxury of a shorter, more navigatable rig. Also the shower and toilet were just out in the room which I KNOW I don't want. The kitchen was a nice size with all the amenities but the former owner had cut down the table of the dinette and scooted the banquette seats futher apart (he was a large man). I KNOW I need the full size dinnete table for eating and for my office work and while I'm fatter than I've ever been in my life - ain't getting older great? - I don't need the extra space at the dinette....yet. So, I was disappointed that I didn't discover my destiny in a barn in Bellevue today, at least I learned more about what that destiny looks like.

Maybe the next one....

Sorry that didn't work out-but it sure gave you an opportunity to add to your WANT and DON'T WANT list. The more you look at, the more you'll know when the right one calls your name :D carold

hi Vickie,

You're on your way ! I would think that there will be a LOT of looking b4 you buy. I, too, had my first gander at a couple of rigs last week. They were neat but, pricey! It's fun to look and get more ideas of what we want on our gotta have list, right?

Keep posting,,,and we will keep giving our feedback, i'm sure!

Best regards!

Jeesh!! Been working on pricing things for my first yard sale. First because it's obvious I will have to do at least a couple of these to get rid of stuff. Just selling smaller things this time around as I will need to have furniture in the house when I put it back on the market. Just about have the basement/crawl space dried out and all the damp smell has gone away. I have an inspector coming next week so we will see if I'm ready to go back on the market. Will try the For Sale By Owner route this time - money spent on an agent's percentage will be better spent on my new RV. Meantime I keep dreaming of new horizons.
