Advice on Class B's

Good thinking....start small and within your means. You can always trade up as your financial circumstances change. You should be able to find a good used TT that will provide you with many happy adventures.

As I said finding a class B in NJ or the surrounding states was difficult and there was a limited supply of used. I did research for about 2 months and I first decided on a model to pursue, then I googled that model. I got hits on craigslist and checked ebay and any dealers that might have that model.

I did not wire the $1000 to the dealer until after I had the vehicle inspected. To be honest I was suspicious of the dealer as he was nogoing on instinct t forthcoming with alot of information. Having sold cars for a few years I was naturally cautious. I paid $200 for the inspection and the owner of the business was familiar with VW's and Raila's so he talked his technician through the inspection. Since getting possession, I found that the 12 volt charger was burned out. I had it replaced the next day in Sacramento before we headed home, knowing that I would need heat and light. That was $600. Since getting it home we have been going over different systems. Whatever, took out the 12 volt charger it also fried the solar panel and we are in the process of getting the parts to repair it. Mechanically the vehicle is like a new vw.
A major reason for buying it was the low milage and the interior shows little wear or tear. I also have to reseal the skylight with sealant to stop a leak.

Once I had sent the $1000 deposit I requested a receipt, which gave me the vin # I purchased insurance and had them fax me the insurance card and I went online and bought 1 way tickets to Sacramento and arranged with the dealer to pick us up at the airport with the Rialta. It was an "as is" purchase and so I was responsible for the repair but I'm still pleased with the purchase.

Understand your thinking. I spent 3 or 4 months to find my rig. I was searching nationwide - and was lucky that I eventually found this in the next state. Almost purchased something further away for a little bit more, and now I think there was a reason that didn't work out. As this is better for me. Layout, just everything!

Good luck with what you do - and remember, you don't have to jump into anything. Take your time - and if you truly want one type of rig - it will eventually be there for you. And, yes, keep checking eBay also - some good deals to be found on there if you can get around the others. I don't remember which of the rv sales sites I found most of the rigs I looked at - but keep looking at all of them. (I have had almost no luck with the Camping World sites - but I do try to stay with private sellers when I can - although I don't rule out dealers entirely).
