Van Conversions

Since we have a few new members who are talking about converting vans etc., including me, I was wondering if those of you who went that route at one time or other, had raised roofs on your vans. If I decide to do that I probably will go that route. Only drawback is that I would have to leave it out side all the time and in an area where 150 inches of snow is usually the norm, I don't know if I want to have to clean it off when I have to head for town cause it would also serve as my primary vehicle. I know that there are tops than can be raised and lowered but I thought perhaps a fixed top could have some storage areas in it as well. Anybody got pictures even if we have to post them on Show Us Your Rigs so we we can see what you did?:)

my camping van had a normal roof so I was unable to stand up in my van.

Yeah, that's the way my folks van was and they loved going in it. Just had a dinette/bed combo in back and that was it. Put in a Coeman cooler, their personal stuff, Coleman stove, did have an electric outlet put in soe they could hook up to electric, and took off for a month's trip out west and back through the Canadian Rockies. Had a ball.

you might want to check out this website: http://www.sbmcc.co.uk/index.phpa lot of these conversions were created from a "ford transit connect" which has been sold in europe for quite awhile and just became available in the US in the past few years. its taller than a regular cargo van which i think is nice, especially if you're living in a small space already, its good to be able to stand up to put your clothes on!
