GOOD MORNING ALL!
Well, whatever MIGHT have been left of my lilacs surely bit the dust last night, as the temperature is a really crunchy, crispy 21 degrees this morning. That's not a light frost----that's a damaging deep freeze. So sad to see so much damage from frost this spring. The sky is cloudless this morning, and I will be looking forward to seeing the warm sun.
Molly and I were toasty in the trailer with the electric heater on and a heavy-duty sleeping bag covered with a down quilt to seal in the warmth! We didn't realize how cold it had gotten until we stepped out onto the white, crunchy grass. We have another mouse in the live trap under the kitchen sink in here, which she alerted me to, and now she is drooling over the anticipation of its getting free and running into her waiting mouth! (That won't happen as that trap is pretty fool-proof.) I'll put trap and all into an old cat litter plastic container with a cover (to ensure it won't get jostled free of the trap in my truck!) and let him go about two miles from here on my way to school. I forgot to check all my steel wool chinking the other morning, and MUST do that when I get home today to try to discover where they are getting in again. Usually at this time of year, if there are any winter residents in the house, they are trying to get free and return to the wilds!
Two days to go this week, and we have a special assembly today addressing bullying and the repercussions of such behaviors. Our class has planned two more field trips---one to the local bowling alley next week (we will walk this day), followed by lunch somewhere, ice cream from Stewart's, and back to school. Then another day next month we will be bused to Plattsburgh, our nearest sizable city, to WalMart and then to the shopping mall for lunch and more shopping. They will spend the money they earned making wreaths and signs for people at Christmas time. For a number of my kids, this is the only time they ever get out of Saranac Lake as their parents, guardians, or caretakers do not have cars, nor are they motivated enough to allow their kids to ever learn how to manage their money and shop.
More violent weather in the central states today, so please be careful out there. Stop in for coffee and let us know what's up in your lives. I hope we all have a neat Thursday!
