Thank you all! I needed that, as, yes, I am scared silly to actually be saying goodbye to those bi-weekly checks! However, I am so looking forward to having no schedules always weighing me down, harnessing me in, confining me, etc.

I will never run out of things to do---of that I am sure.

Believe it or not I sat here and read this with tears in my eyes. I am both happy/excited and sad for you. There is so much I want to say but not sure how to.

Yes you will be excited, scared, happy, sad, maybe at a loss but you will also be anticipative of a whole new way of life. The others have said, "Once a teacher, always a teacher". And yeah that's true in so many ways. But now you also have the chance to be a student of life too. Your new adventures will give you so many chances to learn new different things and lessons.

Quote from another of your postings,

"I would be reduced to a quivering mass of protoplasm if I were alone on the road and any driveshaft I might have were to fall off!"!

I don't believe in what you said for a second. With your inner spirit and courage you will tackle any challenge that life throws at you and come out on the other side as a winner! And if you do happen to land in the dust on your butt? Knowing you, you will get up, dust off your britches and have back at it twice at hard! ;) When I was younger and did something radically dumb? My Mom would look at me, shake her head and tell me that it was a good thing she named me after a Goddess for protection. That said Goddess would always look out for "fools and idiots". LOL We are all fools and idiots at some point in time. But the Lady does look out for us. She only gets disgusted with us if we curl up and give up and no longer live life as it was meant to be!!!

On that last day of school when you realize that you are saying goodbye and will never quite be same person you were? Smile. Then embrace your new life and rejoice in the new person you will become.

Congrats Soos!!! xoxoxo

I retired last June and thought I would miss teaching. NOT so - I have loved retirement and find my good memories make me smile often. Enjoying the freedom to travel when I want to. I wish you much happiness and peace in your retirement. Congrats on taking the plunge to the next adventure in life.

Again I so appreciate the comments and well-wishes from those who have taken the big plunge into the unknown! It is as much of a life-change for me as having kids was---a mixture of ecstatic anticipations and icy cold fears of what's to come! But I have no doubts any more that it is definitely time for this move. Next year at this time, I will be more at peace with my life, I HOPE! I hope I will have discovered I can live on my limited income quite comfortably, and that I will still be healthy and sane enough (NO snide remarks here!) to have fun on the roads!

Sigh. The school year suddenly seems so much SHORTER to me from this viewpoint!

Congrats on your release from real life and embarking on the life of adventure! I envy you. I have 3 years left till my retirement. One of my students said to me today, "Only 3 more years till I leave high school forever!" "Me, too!" I added. I think I confused her. Guess all teenagers figure we just stay there in that classroom forever. In between semesters I try to scratch the itch by taking roadtrips but about this time of the year (20 days to go) I am having a hard time containing it. Found myself driving to Memphis last Saturday just to get away (400 miles down and back in one day). Be sure to post about your transistion so we can follow.

Yea Soos! You will experience emotions you never knew you had in the next few weeks, but keep your nose firmly pointed ahead toward the future - life is definitely a journey, not a destination and I hope you get to enjoy the ride!
