I remember when I first bought my boat and went to park it at a public dock at a local drinking and dining establishment (Fletchers). I was an absolute wreck! I knew all the guys were watching me and I didn't want to smack my boat into the docks (or another boat) and make a scene. I ended up doing fine, but afterward, I had to go lay down in the cabin and calm down as I was just about in tears from nerves! Then I got out and got a good stiff Long Island Iced Tea at the bar! It was a piece of cake everytime after that! I will get to experience that all over again when I get my first RV (altho hopefully not trying to park it at a dock! Then I will have had way too many Long Islands beforehand! )!

You will do fine! Then you can go lay down and cry afterwards, and make your own drinks to calm yourself down and celebrate!

Good luck on your maiden voyage! I'm sure you're gonna do just fine! I'm anxiously awaiting to hear how everything went, as I'm getting ready to embark on our maiden voyage as well, and am getting "itchy!" I'll live vicariously though your travels until it's time for us to hit the road

My maiden voyage with my old/new-to-me 1988 Glenelle travel trailer, which is a 21 footer, I will never forget! The KOA I went to is just about 15 miles from my house, but it felt like a hundred as I was towing for the first time! When I got about half-way there, I turned on the radio and gloated that I was on the road with my 'house' behind me, following along like a good house should! Then panic set in as I realized I was about to enter a campground, park, unhitch, and set up! Luckily, I had chosen a pull-through site to avoid the backing up which was out of the question! I was so proud as I manoevered into the spot, leveled it off with my orange leveling slabby things, unhitched, moved the truck forward, and went inside to breathe!

A while later, as I tried to lower the awning, I realized I hadn't quite centered the trailer between two huge and close pine trees at the site, and one was blocking the awning arm! I had to back up the truck, rehitch again, level again, unhitch, all the while praying no one was watching me and chuckling to themselves! I ended up having a wonderful first camping experience all on my own in a wonderful campground where everyone was friendly and so very helpful, if I needed them. And I will never forget that wonderful feeling of 'having done it!!'

Make yourself a check list of hitching, examining tires, latches, doors, steps, TV antennas, hookups, (water and electric and sewer) vents, etc. as well as the steps to hitching and unhitching. Use it every time you go and return! It will be like a lifeline for you. And don't forget to make room for your awning!

So have a super time, and take us some pics, if you have a digital camera yet! Other times will be just as fun, but never again will it be quite as thrilling as that first time!

Mary, just remember the nicest words are "Pull Thru". Because I tow I seldom ever back up so when I have to back into a site, I move 2 feet, get out and walk around, move another 2 feet, get out and look, etc, etc. May look funny but makes me happy. Just remember to look up for tree branches. I have a great check out list and I still drove off one time while still plugged into the electric. Had to replace the door for the electric cord but no other damage. Have also driven off with the step out. Stuff happens.

Mitch, would love to get together with you sometime. Fun, fun, fun!!!

If she ever makes it to NM to see you and you guys go out, when the food server asks "red or green", tell Mitch to get the red! Then she'll really know what real mexican food is!!

Hey, we lived for 30 years next to a town that was almost 100% Hispanic...there were some mighty fine (i.e. authentic) Mexican restaurants there. Before my best friend died last year, every time we went back north, that's the place we hit first for dinner!!! I actually prefer the green.

I've never had Tex-Mex. I think I would like that a lot.

Smart Aleck! I prefer the green, too, more flavor. I used to eat the red, but having been married to 2 men with gringo mouths, I now have a gringo mouth. Tex-Mex sucks. Just my personal opinion, but what do I know, I'm from NM. California mexican is ok, but sure doesn't compare with NM. Pizza's ok here, but doesn't compare with Chicago or NJ, and forget about getting a decent piece of lasagna here. BBQ here doesn't compare with Kansas City....as you can see, I pretty well eat my way across the US! There's a little restaurant in Albuquerque on old Hiway 66 that my dad and I go to that serves the best steak fingers smothered in green chile...I crave that dish!

Mitch, if you'll pm me your address I'll send you a can of Hatch green chilis from my private stash...they're the best in the world! I put them on everything...scrambled eggs, meat...you name it. My kids used to swear I snuck them in their milk when they were little! In fact, I'll post a recipe for green chile stew in the recipe section, low calorie and low carb.

Thank you gals all soooo much.i am actually sitting here with tears in my eyes.You are all so wonderful.I am sooo excited!!! i hope you all know you are my new family.I have 2 sons,and 2 brothers one is mentally ill and dont get to visit with either one much, that is the extent of my blood family now.. I am 22 years younger than the brother..Thank you all sooooo much.Pictures will be onthier way....CAN"T WAIT
