The Adventures of Traveling with an Older Motorhome

Just thought I would drop in and say hello and let you know how we are doing. It has been awhile since I posted.

We are doing fine though we are having another adventure of motor home problems. We left Wenatchee yesterday for Sequim, drove through white out conditions on Stevens Pass, caught the ferry in Edmonds for Kingston. Got off the ferry and drove about 5 miles when the drive shaft fell off the motor home stranding us on the side of the road once again. We spent the night in the mechanics lot, hooked up to his power (thank goodness for kindness) and are now waiting for him to show up this morning to start the repairs.

You can read the more specific details on my blog. It is titled "Maddening Monday." I am praying the repairs are made quickly, efficiently and not too costly. I am planning on making another post to my blog tonight with our day goes.

Ali, I am so sorry to read about your rig yet again! I would be reduced to a quivering mass of protoplasm if I were alone on the road and any driveshaft I might have were to fall off!!

Ali, so sorry to hear of your troubles. Hope things go well from now on and that this experience doesn't cost too much. I'll keep you all in my prayers, safe travels, from now on.

Soos, things happen, and you just travel with your choice of good road service and enjoy your travels and when something happens, you call your road service, grab your book and a snack and get comfortable and relax and enjoy waiting for your guy to come help you get your problem fixed. Of course, you always must keep your vehicle checked over and in good running order, but things still will happen.. BUT you don't worry about these things UNTIL they happen. The idea is to enjoy your travels and the sights along the way. You may never have any kind of problem, so don't stress over what may never happen ok?

My rig is old, 1994, but I maintain it to the best of my ability and have a great mechanic who went through in 2008, put it up on a rack, changed all belts, flushed everything that you could , replaced all filters etc.etc. , spark plugs, just overhauled everything. I plan to travel with it until it stops, or I do. So I will see you on the road somewhere and we won't worry UNLESS we have a problem ok? Just be sure and pay your road service fees each year

Thanks everyone for your prayers and good thoughts. Ron just spoke to Del, the mechanic, and he is waiting to see if he can get a yoke locally. If he can we will be on the road in a couple of hours. If not, he can't get one in till tomorrow.

We are praying that he can find one locally as Ron is due to report for work at 5:00 today. I will update as soon as I have some news.

Well word came this afternoon that the yoke won't be in till UPS delivers it tomorrow so we are staying one more night at the mechanic's. Ron called Rick and talked with him quite awhile about what was going on. It was decided that Ron would not drive the 50 miles to Sequim to work tonight but would show up for set up tomorrow morning at 8:00 and work the whole day. Ron then talked to Albert, the owner of the car that I am using right now, and they made plans that after work tomorrow Albert will bring Ron back to the motor home and pick it and me up and drive to Sequim.

Ron will have a long day tomorrow as he needs to leave from here by 6:45 at the latest. By the time he gets back here in the evening it will be 6:30 or 7:00 p.m. We then will have to drive back to Sequim and get set up in the bone yard.

We will set up the ticket boxes early Thursday morning as the carnival opens at 4:00 p.m. It will take us a couple of hours to do that.

Update 5:15 p.m. on 5/5/10

The motor home is fixed. $642

Now I am waiting for Ron to get back from Sequim. He left at 6:30 this morning to be at work on time. I have spoken to him a couple of times...he is a little down as you can imagine. He does not know what time he will get off work ~ hopefully soon he will call and say he is on his way back.

All this waiting has made me determined to learn how to drive this 37' rig. The motor home was ready to go at 3:00 this afternoon and if I wasn't so chicken to drive it I would be in Sequim by now. I am going to make it a point to have Ron teach me how to drive our home. (I know, I know, it's about time I get serious about learning how to drive it ~ right!!!)

Glad your mh is fixed, but ouch on the $$$. Good decision to learn to drive it...that will save you both time & money in the future.

I'm so glad its fixed, and sorry about the cost. Great news that you've decided to learn to drive your rig. Your choice and not because you're forced into it.
You'll do very well. Try not to worry and just get all of the experience you can setting in the drivers sit and before you know it, you won't even think about any
of this,( big part ) Several ladies drive those big rigs and have no problems, only problem might be the surprised men, seeing these little women getting out of them ,
without a man in tow You've still got your man, all you need it experience to be a relief driver to make your travels less tiring for both and more enjoyable.
