Roe said he would like to have a hike since his foot is healed, so I decided to take him on the 5 mile bike trail at Silver River, a trail I’ve never been on.
5 miles seems like a lot, but it’s shady and level, so really a pleasant stroll. We’re starting off about 9:30 this morning while it is still cool. Want to come along?
We have a choice of 2 loops, but choose the longer loop to the left.
Blending in with the foliage.
Can’t you see I’m only a leaf?
Ooh look up ahead.
She’s going to pose for us a minute.
“That’s enough, I’m leaving now.”
Can you find the black damselfly trying to look like a pine needle?
I never noticed before that the sharp points of the thistle are as purple as its blossom.
See?
The trail follows this gravel road for a little ways.
And then turns off again to the left.
No wonder they filmed so many Tarzan movies here...these look like great swinging vines.
A pretty little meadow....there used to be a farm here.
And a resting bench across from it. we won’t rest long though, because when you stop, the mosquitos show up. Hope you wore some repellant.
Mosquito breeding ground.
The path gets narrower here. Live oak trees provide the canopy.
Another turn.
Photo op. This is my tick resistant outfit. Worked too, but you don’t want to pause under the trees too long...just long enough for a drink and a photo.
Pretty green dragonfly. I wonder if the ones I saw on the river were blue, and the ones in the woods are green for a camouflage reason?
Roe is pointing to the woods and I see why. Better reel him in quick. He loves to chase turkeys almost as much as chipmunks....and it’s heaven for him if he can roll in their poop!
We’ve finished the bike trail....how about walking down to the river and sit a spell? I’ve got fruit and dog bones for a snack. We’ll watch the fish.
This Rottweiller (sp?) is having a nice swim. Obviously he couldn’t read the no swimming sign. Roe cooled off too, but I wouldn’t let him past the end of the canoe ramp. I can hear an alligator grunting nearby.
Ok, time to go home for a shower. Hope you’re not too tired.
