I've had several allergic reactions to medications. When I was 15, I was on Dilantin for seizures and got an allergic reaction to it 2 weeks later. I got a skin rash that spread all over my entire body in a matter of hours. My temp went up to around 105+. I ended up in the ER and almost died! It almost killed me but it also cured me! I never had any more seizures again (with no more meds). Now I am very aware of any changes going on when I take a new med. I am also severely allergic to sulpha as well.
Allergies can crop up at any time to anyone even if you haven't previously had allergies. They seem to get more prevalent (sp?) as we get older too.

Gosh Beth, what a scary thing to happen. So glad it worked out well for her. Soos, I am thinking like you, alone and so far out, how many days before someone found me, I have no where to report to as you do the school either. My one allergic reaction was when I was quite young, it was to Sulphu and it almost killed me . Haven't had a problem with anything else, but anymore something like that can happen to any of us easy. I usually question my dr., he doesn't mind and I make sure its really something I feel ok taking. The least amount of side effects as possible. Sometimes the side effects of meds, are worse then what you're taking them for, (my opinion).

So, yes, I think this is a subject we all should give good thought to. So thanks for posting it, Beth, but so sorry, your sister's problem was the reason it came up. Sure hope she will be well and stay that way.

That IS scary. So glad her husband was there and got help. One of the reasons I'm glad to have a roomie is that there is a chance I would be found if something awful happened.

How frightening it is to be allergic to the medicine you take for an allergy! And it is one more thing for those of us who live alone to worry about - along with falling off a ladder, slipping in the shower, etc. We just can't prepare for any and all things so we must have faith that all will be well (and be cautious!).
