Holiday Afternoon

Postby asirimarco » Mon Sep 01, 2008 3:33 pm

When I got up this a.m. I was feeling kind of down in the dumps. Now that we're not working, one day is much like any other. And living here all our old friends and family are on the west coast.
It turned out to be such a nice day we went for a ride in the hills around us.
First stopped at a nursery and café.

Saw this sign.

Café was very nice – good food and ambiance.

Then through the forest to the town of Gatesville It’s a real poke and plumb town. By the time you get your head poked out the window you are plumb out of town. There is only one building that we could see.
Image
Lots of the new art around in yards. Some people have really big collections. Told Bill we should get something so we aren’t left out of the fad. He just gave me a “I don’t believe you” look. Lots of abandoned buildings too – make you wonder what happened to the people – did they give up and leave or move on to something better.

Working on a new quilt – haven’t decided how it is going to go together yet. Having problems finding autumn leaf type material.
Image
Yesterday I couldn’t post all day – my computer was okay just using it and another one trying to get my jewelry web site friendly to the search engines. Talk about tear your hair out time! Almost like real work.
But then he showed up to put the day into perspective

You can tell we are still new to the coutry - also had 14 turkeys visit us but didn't get to camera in time.
Guess I rambled on enough

Hi Carol!
Don't you wish that old house could talk and tell the stores from over the generations that have lived in it? your quilt is going to be lovely,... don't rush, wait for just the right colors. I have turkeys here too, and have yet to get a good picture of them,.. they are pretty shy and the minute they suspect I'm sneaking around to get a shot (with a camera) they hustle back into the woods.

Glad your day turned out ok,...

I love the quilt.....I've made a couple myself and know what you are talking about with the colors....Looks like you had a nice afternoon on your adventure....I hate it when big old houses are left alone....makes me sad.....

Hi Carol, thanks for sharing your afternoon, really fun pictures, feels like we were all there! I love fall colors, your quilt reminds me of a log cabin my Mom made years ago, think my sister has it now. We have turkeys too the past few years before that they were very rare. My horse was the best watch dog, I could always tell by his ears when the turkeys were coming by. Happy Labor Day!

I love the sign! And doesn't that just put things in perspective. Especially after the way you'd been feeling. I sometimes need that kind of kick in the butt when I feel down in the dumps, etc. And remember - no one but me will bring me happiness - so I best do what it takes to feel it.

Thanks for the ramblings - enjoyed all the pics and I agree, wait to finish the quilt till you have all the right fabrics - it's looking beautiful so far - would hate to see you rush it by selecting some maybe not so right fabrics. Instead, take your time and it will finish when it's ready to be finished.
