Newbie from NJ, heading to TN in our new RV ;-)

Come on in and say hello.

Newbie from NJ, heading to TN in our new RV ;-)

Postby CanineCaravan » Sat Apr 24, 2010 11:15 pm

Hello! My name is Kimberly, and I'm currently packing up my belongings/life in NJ to fulfill a 13 yr dream of moving to TN! My daughter, Sarah (7), horse Maverick and dogs: Nadja, Dawson, & Gracie are traveling to TN in style---in our new RV! Well, all except for Maverick---even the biggest of toy haulers wouldn't accomodate him, so he's hitching his own sweet air-ride on fancy commercial transportation and meeting us in TN ;-)

Sarah and I are going to take a much-needed, much-over due, and much-deserved extended vacation on our way there...hopping from Jellystone park to Jellystone park the entire way! ;-) (we're big Yogi fans ;-) The past four years have been exceptionally rough and traumatic for us, so this move is coming right in the nick of time.

I'm an author/motivational speaker, and I plan to use our trip to get in some extra writing time (I am very much inspired by nature, and do much of my writing outdoors. My first book was penned while sitting on the beach, listening to the rolling waves!) In addition to my latest writing projects, I'm really excited to be adding two new equine programs onto the existing three existing canine programs my nonprofit organization (Canine and Abled, Inc.) currently offers.

I am partnered with a service dog (K9 Nadja), and we travel the country presenting our motivational/educational program that teaches people about the wonderful benefits that service dogs provide for their partners with disabilities. We also do corporate disability training, advocacy and faith-based speaking programs (my absolute favorite! I love to share the good news of what God has done in my life with others!)

My other two dogs (Gracie and Dawson), also assist us on stage demonstrating service dog tasks and are both certified therapy dogs. Our new equine programs in TN will offer biblical based healing practices in conjunction with equine assisted activities to help people with traumatic brain injury (like me), cognitive disorders, and post traumatic stress disorder. I am so excited to begin these new programs and am blessed to have the opportunity to follow my heart to TN. :-) If anyone would like to see any of our web sites, just let me know... not sure what the proceedure is here about links, and I don't want to break any rules right off the bat! ;-) You can message me for the site addresses if you're interested in learning more about our programs and "meeting" the Canine and Abled dogs.

Sarah and I plan to purchase our RV in June, and have our pick narrowed down to two choices (the Starcraft Autumn Ridge 186BH & the Coachman Freedom Express 230BH). This will be my first RV purchase, so any advice/comments that anyone would like to provide would be very much welcome and appreciated!

I've aready met Mitch from the Trailer Life forum (Hiya, Mitch!), and am very much looking forward to "meeting" all of the wonderful ladies she assured me I would find here. :-)

Well, welcome Kimberly! It sounds like you have one HUGE adventure ahead of you! Glad you've jumped aboard and joined the crew. I'm sure you'll find us to be a bunch of wild and crazy women who are incredibly supportive and encouraging. And we're also very generous with opinions, too! ;)

Hope to hear lots more about your adventures and planning to hit the road.

Welcome, Kimberly. I'm fascinated by what you do with therapy dogs and therapeutic horseback riding. I used to teach physically handicapped kids and have volunteered in the horseback riding program here in Ocala. Do post pictures of some of your events. Congratulations on your new rv and upcoming move to TN. Come and join us for coffee or chat around the campfire...or anywhere in between.

Welcome aboard. Iff you have already met Mitch and still felt confident to post... the rest of us wil provide little threat! As you will pick up there seems a high percentage of us have work with or are presntly working with individuas that are differently able. I also have a back ground with dog training for 35 years and severa of m dogs provide "support" for their friends at a nearby Health Care facility here in Ohio. I just laugh when people comment about their dedication to their work :D because by now I am merely their "driver" and they work the rooms practically on their own! Hope you relocation works smoothly for you and your journey is full of good adventures.

Kimberly, so good to see you here! And a big Forum Welcome to you! Image

As I told you over on rv.net, it's a great group of supportive, smart, funny women. Ask any questions you want and you'll get an answer - several of them, I'm sure. You sure sound like you have your hands full!! Good luck on the RV purchase.

Again, glad you made it! Now, if you can just avoid Vickie, you'll be just fine. She's really mean. Mostly to me. Here's proof: Image

Welcome to the forum. I'm also a Tennessean so know you will love that part of the country. I'm a full-timer now but if you have questions about the East TN area or Nashville maybe I can give you some help. Have fun!

Welcome Kimberly to our great forum! I also read your posts on rv.net and read your story on your website. You've been through a lot and persevered. With all that and talking to Mitch, too, all I can say is that it's uphill from now! Good luck on your rv purchase and upcoming move.

Welcome, Kimberly!

You sound like one fascinating woman.

Feel free to post your websites for all to go to. The only time that would change is if they were sending trojan horses or malware, etc - to other members when clicking on them. We WANT to see what you do. The best way for giving the websites, would be to put them in your signature - or over by your avatar - so that they show every time you post.

Glad to have you with us - join in often.

Welcome Kimberly. We're all looking forward to pictures - you, Sarah, your fur babies, etc. If this is your first RVing experience, feel free to ask anything - nothing is too trivial or silly - we've all been there. I think once we did four or five pages on dumping your tanks. Whereabouts in Tenn will you be? I once lived in White House, near Hendersonville.

Welcome!!!
I'm feeling very honored that you have joined our group. Your story is very moving
and I'll visit your journal many many times. Please post often and share your journey
to TN with us. I look forward to the pictures, and once you get the hang of it, its
really not hard. There is a post in "tech" area that tells you how. Or just hollar, any
one of us will help. Getting a new rv is exciting enough but even more so with a
new agenda and destination.
Off to read more in your journal.

Hello, all. Wow...so humbled and feel so welcome by all your warm replies, thank you :-) I've been exploring around the forum, reading posts and especially loving the travel blogs! It makes me so excited to hit the road and start my own!! Can't wait to get to know you all, and I'm sure I'll be picking your brains for advice along the way! It's so comforting to know that this forum is available to do that!

There were so many posts, I wanted to remember to answer everyone's questions/comments.... I get cognitively overwhelmed fairly easily, so if I forget to answer something, or only answer part of a question--PLEASE re-ask! I just have to take bits and pieces of information at a time.

Thanks again for the warm welcome!
Kimberly, daughter Sarah & fur kids K9 Nadja, Dawson, and Gracie.
