Hitching a FW vs. TT

This is kind of a continuation of my 'Went RV Shopping" post. What do you ladlies find easier to hitch, a Fifth Wheel or a TT? Seems like a FW would be easier cause you can see into the hitch better than one on the bumper, but maybe not. The newer models out now (not all) have reflective mirror type shields over the hitch on the trailer and are supposed to show where your hitch is going as you back into it to make it easier, plus lights on both sides. The TT's involve sway bars, distribution hitches and all that good stuff to hook up. Opinions please :)

I've owned 2 5th wheels and it's doable for one, but found that two people was easier, of course. Didn't have the guide mirrors back then.
Never owned a tow trailer, but have towed allot of boats around in Alaska and that was a two person job, but one can certainly do it, just might take allot of getting in and out to see how you are doing.

I've only owed trailer-types. The hardest part for me was getting the ball & hitch lined up until I got these handy-dandy hitching poles. One goes on the receiver & the other goes on top of the ball. You back up slowly until they meet and one falls down. Works like a charm. Yes, there are the WD and anti-sway bars, but they're not heavy. There's no brute force/strength involved with hitching any type of trailer. It just takes a few brains and a good system so you don't forget anything -- just like any RV.

I was thinking of the hitching polls too, they have magnets, right Laura? And a lot of the trucks have back up cameras now. Ours does or you can add them on too. I've never hitched up a 5th wheel. I do all the equalizer bars and anti sway, etc on our trailer.

DH bought a new Toyota Tacoma 2 weeks ago and pulls a cargo trailer with it. It has a backup camera and like VickieP was saying it really makes it easy. The camera is mounted right where the end gate handle is and looks right down on the hitch ball. Usually the cost of a tt is less than a 5er but takes less of a truck to handle also. The tt won't usually have the capacities or a generator setup like that of a 5er. A 5er is easier to back but can weigh twice as much. These decisions always end up being based on tradeoffs and cost. List what is important to you as a must have then go from there.

I have absolutely no trouble hitching my TT,... as Laura said .... no brute strength required. :D

Ditto what Cedar said. My sway bars are a bit heavy at 35# each, but no big deal.

over the years.....horse trailers, boats, pop ups, travel trailers... mostly all the time
it was done by myself and I never had a problem. Never had mirrors either, just cranked
it up higher than the ball on the truck and had a buddy wand that stood upright where the
hitch was and it helped guide me in. Can't say much for the fifth wheel, I've never taken
it anywhere cause :cry: I have no truck now.
