The day from Hell

Postby retiredhappy » Fri Aug 29, 2008 5:47 pm

Okay, first day of a 3-day weekend - we're booked solid and waiting for check-ins. THE COMPUTE GOES DOWN!!!!!!! We can still book people in with the backup system BUT only for 2 days. Most people are reserved for 3 or 4 days. So we charge them for two days and tell them to come back to the office Sat or Sun to pay for the remainder of their stay. Can't book ANY reservations in the future at all till system comes back to normal. THIS IS MY 6TH DAY!! I've barely learned the normal process yet.

Now I remember why I retired from government. Too many people telling you what and how to do things and, of course, everyone tells you something different. Grrrrrr! I turn around at one point today and I'm ALONE in the office. The fulltime city employee is outside on her cell phone. Love my site - park is pretty. Sparkle, I want your job. Here, they tell people to go on down to their site and if they don't like it, just come on back to the office and we'll move them. What? In the meantime, you've assigned the site they want to someone else. Grrrrrrr! Most of the people in the office are new, within the last few months, and they're not RVers. Don't even know the difference between 50amp and 30amp for FHU vs. W/E sites. Grrrrr.

Okay, I've gotten this off my chest. I'm off until next Tuesday and I'm going to have a BIG glass of wine. Thanks, as usual, for listening and letting me vent.

Karen, sorry you had a bad day. On a positive note, at least you didn't have a bad day AND were in Douglas, WY living on the gravel.

I commiserate with you - but to be honest - you have it better than whoever will be working who has to get the rest of the money from all these people. Be very grateful you are now off the rest of the weekend (and how did you manage that LOL)

Me, tomorrow is my Monday - and this will be my 3rd weekend from Hell here - and the last one - as on Sunday I'll be working about 13-14 hours - although this time they forgot to schedule the cafe open for lunch, so we might actually get a break for a couple hours lol - by the time we told them they left that off the calendar of events, it was too late to change it (yep, we kept quiet for a reason).

Enjoy your weekend - and yep - it's truly the pits without our computers now.

Karen
that is too bad I would think that it should be required that the workers are rv'ers or have been!!! Enjoy the weekend off and more than likely it will all be better when you get back.

Aren't computers wonderful? Sometimes I think we lived better without them. But I can't stand to be away for mine for a day. Had a surprise the other day. You all know we live in a small town right well went to the county office to register our deed and they do it by hand in a big leather bound ledger. Like walking into another century. But once it was written down it was done and right - end of story

Remember Karen there is always an unsettled feeling when you first get to a job. It takes me about three weeks before I find my groove. Then I sometimes discover I don't like this here groove! We had a weekend from Hell too. If you ladies ever want to see a naked man, (now come on, who said, not me!) Anyway, you takes your average Lakota Indian, pour in three four beers and, voila, he takes his clothes off! Dances nekkid, and gives off war cries all night long. We have 5 camping loops here and in each loop there was at least one group. They didn't stop until at 3.00am they were threatened by the Police. I know how the Pioneers felt. I couldn't get a wink of sleep for peering through my venetian blinds. Binoculars weren't any help.

Naked Indians - why does Sparkle have all the fun? How did I get the weekends off? They were dumb enough to ask me what days I wanted to work and I said Tues Weds and Thurs    This is supposed to be my "kick back" job. The park is pretty empty now after the Labor Day weekend and I love it. Lots of room to walk, just me and the dogs.

I think we all need to get our butts together and caravan along behind Sparkle!!! But I think I'll go last when it comes to letting her pick out my parking place on the beach.....
