That has been my thought all along for the past couple of years. My folks did that with two vans. The first one back in the 70's when van conversions weren't really around then. But my dad found a place that built a dinette system on a plywood floor that converted into a full queen bed when you wanted it llike todays camper dinettes). The benches were hinged on the botton and could be folded in so that if you wanted to you could pull the whole thing out and use the van for something else. Mom made curtains for it and we just took out the back seat when they were going to camp or whatever. Later on this unit was transferred to another van and they camped all the way out West to CA and up into the Canadian Rockies and back for a month with it. Just put food in the cooler, took a Coleman stove along and their personal stuff and HAD A BALL. Stayed out a couple of nights in Yellowstone at a log cabin cause temps were a bit too chilly to sleep in van, but that was it. Oh yeah, had a vent put in the roof and a plug into the one side to hook up to electric. The only issue tht stops me from doing this right now is that I don't like driving those vans on slippery winter roads here. One thing I have been looking at too is Sportsmobile. They will convert vans to anything you want even if its just a bed back there. Look up their website www.Sportsmobile.com. Anybody had any experience with them?

When I started looking for my RV I knew I wanted to find a nice used one. I wanted a class A because I wanted to feel like I was securely in my little home all the time. If I didn't feel the need to get out I had everything I needed. I could pull into a rest stop and fix a meal and even sleep without leaving the rig.

Friends helped me with advising me. They had a Fleetwood and really liked it so I hoped to find one. I turned out I was the luckiest person because I found exactly what I was looking for. I have a 32' 2002 Fleetwood. Since I felt I could be traveling alone a lot I wanted somethikng I could manage all by myself but also wanted to have enough space for someone to travel with me.

What I found was exactly what I needed.

I have a customized van that I drive all the time and I have slept in it a couple of times. It has a sofa in the back that you push a button and it lays down. I put a porta pottie in the back. The side windows and back have blinds that pull down and I made a curtain I can put across behind the front seats. I could camp in it if I had to. The only problem is being in South Louisiana I would need air conditioning or it would be too hot.

I have been looking into the portable AC units, not the window kind. They could be vented through a front window. The unit could also be left home when not needed. I have to learn more about the hoses and how they work with the system. I have also thought of using a window unit and setting it up like they do in some of the smaller trailers. I think A liner has a unit that operates from the floor level on some kind of drawer slider mechanism. Pull it out to use it and push it back in when not in use. Just have to find an area that gets little traffic. Linda
