Some Underrated National Parks

Here's a great article about some of the Underrated National Parks.. Sadly, I've only been to 3 of these. The good news - the others can stay on my bucket list.

Thanks Beth, very interesting article. I found I have been to about half of them, nice to know of more. Last Park listed though is in Alaska, been there, not Arkansas. For those who may not know.

The only one I have been to is Black Canyon. I thought the people following me were going to have to start pushing to get me up there. The motorhome I had at the time was underpowered for mountain travel. I didn't need a sign to know when I was at 7,000 feet.

Carol, I had to go re-read. It says AK in the article - unless it mis-says it elsewhere. And, yep, I was there, also. You've been to more of these than me - you lucky person. I'm still working on all of them, though - as well as the National Monuments and State Monuments, etc etc - so much to see - it's neverending.

When Jean and I were heading out of AZ - she got on the walkies at one point and said it felt like we were driving through the Grand Canyon. And she was right - it wasn't as big obviously, as we were driving through a canyon - but just as glorious. In some ways more so because we could drive it. And it's not a state of federal anything! Just a road through western AZ.

Either Carol and I both need our eyes checked or they corrected it, Beth. Because when I looked at it, like Carol, under the title it said Arkansas and in the write-up, it said Alaska.

Beth, I went back and read it and yes, it now has Alaska, but when I first went to read it, it did definitely say Arkansas, no abbrev. . Yes, I have been very lucky, but a couple mentioned in there I had not even heard of, like the one in S.C. I'm not real fond of swamp, so those out west interest me more.

Martha, I know what your talking about at the Black canyon one, I was driving and it was steep! Road left a great deal to be desired in my opinion, like wider and more of it. Quite a drop off. That was one canyon, when LIz and I, went to the look out and looked down, it gave me the creeps. Can't explain why, but I will never forget it, for that reason. So many many places in this country of ours, are absolutely beautiful. I'm hoping to see more of it. I love reading of more selections though, so thanks.

That's so weird But definitely can happen. I saw Alaska the first time I read it - but I might have been seeing that only because I knew and had been to the park. What a hoot.

Like you, Carol, there were a few there I never heard of - and I thought I'd at least heard of our National Parks. Just goes to show that no matter how much we learn, there is still so much TO learn.

We've been to all but 3 of these. Definitely worth going to, although I might think twice about a swamp-depending on the time of year. There are definitely some great places that are off the beaten track and seeing the pics and reviews from the gals here, I've put many of them on my bucket list. carold

cokanee fishing.

I've never been to any National Parks! Really want to see at least some of them someday, especially Yosemite and Yellowstone, but would be great to see some of the quieter ones with less crowds that are probably just as beautiful.

OK, now down to 2. We're staying at private campsite across the entrance on the east side of Okefenokee. The only public campground is on the west side. carold

Have been to Isle Royale such a pretty area. A good friends husband was a ranger there and we were able to go see them as guest and the trip across the lake didn't cost us!!! no motors on the island...or at that time there wasn't...it was a enjoyable vacation
