On Monday we sadly said goodbye to Karen....you did a great job taking over for Beth and making this gtg a success.
Birdie and I stayed on to enjoy one more day in Port Lavaca.
Roe and I took a long walk down the beach toward Indianola.
Along the way I practiced my birding skills I’ve picked up from Birdie. Oh, there’s a red-eyed crested loony bird.
I wanted to investigate this statue I’d passed coming in. I was surprised to learn it was the same LaSalle of LaSalle & Joliet fame. I knew he’d explored the Lake Champlain, Great Lakes & Mississippi River, but had no idea he’d been this far down the coast and started a settlement here.
Woke up this morning to a pretty sunrise...
After breakfast, Birdie and I headed north to Galveston. We took the scenic route.
Wonder if this boat was washed this far inland during the last hurricane.
A nice little spot for lunch.
We explored some sights around Galveston...
The sea wall
Hurricane damage
Colorful houses and streets
Tree lined avenues
We wanted to tour the Moody mansion, but got there as it was closing.
I’ll give you the peek-through-the-window tour of the garage.
We ate out at the Fisherman’s Wharf.
Birdie ordered this Tropical Margarita in your honor, Sparkle.
We had a fondue thingy with shrimp & lobster...yummy.
Docked beside us was the Tallship Ellissa
On the road back, Birdie spotted this Louisiana Kite with his mouse catch. (Or was that Mississippi Kite?)
Back to our campsite at Galveston Island SP and another little walk to see the evening birds
and watch the sunset.
