Friday Already

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Friday Already

Postby asirimarco » Fri Apr 02, 2010 6:10 am

Good Morning All - I'm up before day break again - will have to work on getting my sleep schedule adjusted. But then it doesn't get light here until almost 8...
The coffee is on but that is about it - just some stale goodies left from Mexico - Today will be busy - somehow we ended up with 5 people coming for dinner tonight. Started out one friend for corned beef, then another couple from here, then a couple from Canada that we met a couple years ago cause they read my blog. They are staying at the Brown County State Park for a few days so will be here tonight too. At least it's an easy meal to fix. And should be fun.
Bill has already been to see doc since we've been home - infected ingrown toenail - but its getting better. At our age I hate for things to go wrong with our feet. Its been beautiful the last couple of days - got up to 85 yesterday. But supposed to rain tomorrow.
Its good to be home. Untill we get itchy feet again. Haven't been over to check on the Alfa yet - in time.
Just got the Census thing in the mail yesterday so better fill it out and get it on its way.
Good weather and safe travels to all.

Glad someone is up and about early. Thanks for the coffee and I'll add some blueberry muffins to the mix. We've decided to stay put until after Easter. Seems as though all the snowbirds are on the roads as well as FL residents for the holiday weekend. I-95 was like a parking lot yesterday according to some friends who decided to leave anyways. Now we can get our new drivers licenses and take care of some other business without rushing around today. Ava, glad to hear about your new hours and $$$ and Barbie, hope you find a good paying job. Sounds like the gtg in Texas is off and running. Looking forward to pics. Have a nice day. carold

GOOD MORNING CAROLS AND ALL!

It's about 28 degreees outside, but it will be clear and sunny and as warm, or warmer, than yesterday out there! YIPPEE!!

I will take my tent down today when it dries out in the sun, and pack it for my first truck campout of the year....perhaps to my daughter's house. I also will again try to get my portable satellite dish oriented now that I know how to hook it to my mini TV. The place to cannect it is hidden on it, is NOT an AV red, yellow, white connection to the TV from the receiver----it's red, yellow, and white from the receiver, and the other end of the attaching cord to the TV is just one plug-in! That special little cord was hidden in the TV box and had fallen down underneath my truck, so I hadn't seen it! Yesterday when I was all set up with receiver, dish out and pre-aimed with satellite signal meter attached, I concluded that it was impossible to hook up the mini TV to satellite! Then I read my TV manual! When all else fails------but, by then, I had reattached my receiver here in the back bedroom and I was too tired to take it out there and try it again. Sigh! But I am sure it will work, and I got the prelim settings for the dish from my upstairs mounted dish, so I shouldn't be too far off.

I managed to clean up a bunch of fallen branches from my yard, and hoe and rake out little mounds and tunnels of dirt moles pushed up all over the place under the snow, opened up the trailer door to warm it up in there (it's like a refrigerator inside!), and today I will need to pick up Molly poops from various spots all over the yard. Molly and I will hike to the pond and check on things down there, and I will look at the poor Kicker stuck in the woods, waiting for a tow back here to the house so I can try to figure out if it will ever run again, or not. It quit down there in 4 feet of snow after tipping over and being righted by about 6 very inebriated boys (men?) and at nearly 36 below zero, none of them were in any shape to try to jump start it and get it back up here! So there is where it spent its winter! I miss it! I could drive to the pond with a chansaw in that, and clear the road for the summer. Tons of snow melted in the warmth and sunshine yesterday.

I have never been able to figure out why they call this GOOD Friday, as, in the Christian religion, it's the day they crucified Christ. When I asked my mother about this when I was little, she didn't have an answer, either. It seems to me it should be BAD Friday, or MOURNING Friday. Easter is the GOOD day, according to the Bible. Oh well....another of those things to ponder, I guess.

I am really having withdrawal pangs from Lilly and Hope, as they have now bedded down at the base of a huge white pine tree about 120 yards from their winter den....out of sound and viewing range. I can't wait to see Lynn Roger's program on Animal Planet Sunday night.

Thanks for the coffee, Carol, and for the blueberry muffins, Carold! Stop in and let us know how things are with you all. Poor RI, as much of that state is now under water!

Happy Friday!
Life is about learning to dance in the rain
Happy travels!

Morning all. Peaches and I already had our morning walk and I had GOOD hot chocolate this morning. The problem with that is it means lots of calories, vs the 20-25 calorie stuff I usually drink on a cool morning. Ah, I deserve it. Will take Peaches for a 2nd walk in a couple minutes, as the little girl will be my rv guard dog for the day and here all alone all day. So, I like to spoil her a bit.

Hope everyone has a good day -

Generally, English speaking countries and the Dutch call Friday of the Holy Week as "Good Friday". Its said that in Early Modern English, "Good" had a meaning in the sense of "Holy".

Oxford puts the reference under "good":-
a) Pious, devout; worthy of approbation from the religious point of view.
b) of books, etc.: Tending to spiritual edification. the good book: spec. the Bible.
c) of a day or season observed as holy by the church.

Good tide: (a) Christmas; (b) Shrove Tuesday. Cf. GOOD FRIDAY.
Merriam-Webster says under etymology: "from its special sanctity" American-Heritage gives "[From good, pious, holy (obsolete).]" So, "good" as used here is just an archaic form of "holy".

But other languages / countries refer to this day as follows:-

In the Holy Land, Good Friday is known as "GREAT FRIDAY." In Germany it is "Friday of Lamentation" and PASSION OF FRIDAY. In Armenian it is called "HIGH FRIDAY". But in Russian it is called "PASSION FRIDAY" and in Chinese, "PASSION FRIDAY" and "Day of Christ's Suffering".

GREAT FRIDAY: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Macedonia, Malta, Poland, Lithuania, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sri Lanka, Indonesia and in the Eastern Orthodox Church.

HOLY FRIDAY: Latin America, Spain, France, Italy, Portugal, Brazil, Philippines, Vietnam, Japan.

LONG FRIDAY: Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Faroe Islands, Iceland.

SAD FRIDAY: Arabic & some Asian countries.

However, Good Friday is "celebrated" all over the world as the day Jesus sacrificed his life on the cross.

Soos, you might want to try a nifty little program called DS Look Angle. You just plug in your current zip code and it gives you the readings for the satellite(s) of your particular provider - Dish or DirecTV. I have it loaded on my laptop and get the settings no matter where we are. See where it says "SATELLITE"? From the drop down menu you can choose different satellites.

Morning!
Carol, can you set another place at your table? I LOVE corned beef (if it's not fixed with the spice packet that comes with it). ;) Glad you are home and hubby is getting his toe looked after. My son suffers from an ingrown big toe caused by a bench falling over on it when he was in 6th grade. He's 40 and still has to get it removed periodically.

Wonderful the GTG in TX is off to a great start. Looking forward to seeing more of their adventures.

I remember setting up the satellite dish in our yard in Alaska, and our new neighbor's yard. What a chore to get it right!! Good luck with that. ;)

Today we have weather warnings, especially on the coast as they are expecting up to 80 MPH wind gusts. I'm sure people are flocking there to watch as they normally do
.
My DD and her family are to return home after being gone 8 days to CA and AZ. Even though I don't see them often, I do miss when they are not in the area. I chatted with my 10 yr old GD on Facebook last night. It was so much fun, but I think I got her sad as she was missing me, too.

Today I pick up "Little Missy", my MH. My X DH will help me go get her and will probably drive her back to her storage as I don't want my first attempt of driving her with all the new steering to be in 40 MPH wind gusts and pouring rain. I'll take her out for a shake down as soon as we get a dry day. Oh, and the mechanic also said my inside rear tire went flat (I saw that it was loosing air when we took it in to his shop), and when he went to switch out the flat for the spare, found the spare was the wrong size rim! So now I'm having to replace the spare tire/wheel, too. The cost keeps adding up, but it was a good thing that was caught now instead of perhaps when I really needed to use it! :o BTW who said owning an RV is cheaper than a stick and brick!??

Ok, everyone have a safe, fun day!

We're home! Decided to come home yesterday instead of waiting till today. All the wind and pollen in the air had given Ronnie a terrible fit. I got 4 loads of laundry done last night and only 3 left to do today. My sister's having a Good Friday Crawfish Boil today, so we'll probably go down the road for that, they only live 2 lots down from us.

Good morning Ladies.

It is raining here in Lacey, WA. Wonder if we will have any customers at the carnival today ~ I just don't think it would be very fun going on the rides in the rain. I am thankful that our jobs as ticket sellers is inside the ticket booth. I feel for the rest who have to stand out in the rain and cold all day.

Hope everyone has a great Good Friday. I am feeling a little sad that we won't be at our Good Friday service ~ it is always a special service and I enjoy celebrating communion with our church family. We are hoping that once we get in the swing of things we will be able to attend services some Sunday's ~ it will depend on what time we have to report for work those days.

Good Morning....crazy day here...trying to pack and ready for the weekend.
Our older boys are staying home and house sitting ...also because they have classes on Monday...as their Spring Break was this past week..and the younger kids have Spring Break this upcoming week.

We are taking our younger 3 kids and the 2 teens ones are each bringing a friend....to the Great Wolf Lodge in Grand Mound, WA. If you have no idea what these places are....they are a hotel/resort waterpark..the waterpark is actually an indoor one. They have many activities and things that happen. It is not exactly on the cheap...same as taking your kids to Disneyland and such..but it is AWESOME and we love it. Once you get there..you can just lock out the outside world and enjoy, relax, etc.

Now I just have to figure out how to get everything into the Durango and the luggage carrier.

You all have a great weekend.

Good afternoon ladies. Having rain and T-storms today. Hope this weather stays north and doesn't find its way to the GTG. I gave it orders to go away, but nobody listens to me anyway. :o

Have a good weekend Kristy, sounds like a fun time. Glad you made it back safely VickieP. Lenora, keep an eye on that tire. I had a slow leak in my rear tire (with the camper on) and the tire guy found the valve was faulty. He replaced it with a metal one and all is well. Carol, sounds like you are having a full house with good food.

Take care all and if you are on the road, drive safely. Linda

It feels weird that I can't start or join the morning coffee, but we are on the move. Left in heavy fog this morning. We tried waiting awhile to see if it would lift some, but gave up and left anyway. The Walmart parking spot was good, but lots of traffic noise. Luckily I was tired so it didn't bother me. Actually, it's noisy here tonight and we are at an RV park...near the interstate. Glad we didn't see any RV accidents today. We saw 2 yesterday. Makes me curious as to what happened. I just pray the people are OK. One 5th wheel was TOTALED!!! Only about 100 mi to go in the morning to get to my brother's house :D :D Hoping to run errands with my SIL, since she and my nephew will be leaving at 4 PM for MI for SIL's brother's wedding. My niece is staying home with her dad, so I will get in some girl time with her ;)
