APR 2010- Port Lavaca, TX (Magnolia Beach)

Our first adventure was when we all piled into Birdie's car and she set her GPS to take us to a restaurant in town. We followed her directions exactly and we hear "You have arrived at your destination on the left". We all look left and there it is, THE WATER and not even a building let alone a restaurant. So we do the thing women do, we stopped and asked someone where to find a good seafood restaurant.

We presented Yakn1 (Vicki) with her wineglass (Liz has the pictures.) Hopefully it will be less windy today. Poor Sophie is exhausted. She has decided its her new job to keep a constant eye on the seagulls and it requires her full attention. It was so windy yesterday that her ears where flying straight out from her head - I fully expected her to take off like the Flying Nun at any moment. She doesn't much like the waves - thinks they are out to get her.

The drive down here was absolutely beautiful. Fields and fields of wildflowers. Best display I've seen in years.

Thursday, April 1
And the 2010 TX GTG has begun! We have Karen (retiredhappy), Diana (mtngal), Nancy (Birdie), Vicki (yakn1) and me so far....others expected today.

First we chatted (Yakn1 & Birdie, and Sophie watching the birds)


Then 3 of us took a walk down the beach & road. The wildflowers are beautiful here.



Birdie wanted to walk to a place called Magic Ridge to look for....

You want to look too? I’m sure Birdie got better pictures of the actual birds and ahe knows all their actual names too. Maybe she’ll post some. She has the best binoculars I’ve ever looked through and a pretty serious camera too.

I walked back to take Roe for a walk...he doesn’t like me to walk without him, but I hadn’t wanted him to scare any potential birds away.

Maybe these are laughing gulls....Birdie will know...they probably have 3 names.


I think this is a Yucca in bloom


Roe wasn’t so sure about all the sharp shells on the beach....he has a sore foot I’ll have to get checked by the vet when we get back.


The wind makes Sophie’s ears soar like Dumbo’s...she’s so cute!


So we enjoyed sitting and watching the pelicans,


the shrimpers,


and the waves.


Later 4 of us went out for seafood. We couldn’t find a restaurant with the gps, so we stopped and asked a local. He gave us good advice, sending us to Bayside Seafood. It was excellent!


Although I was trying to figure out what a “nd” choice was. Duh!


On the way Diana spotted this sign and thought it said Flamingo. We decided to take a picture because we know Mitch can make it say anything she wants it to.


We ended the evening with Karen presenting the official flamingo wineglass to Vicki (yakn1).

I'm glad the TX GTG is off to a great start, now if the bad weather tonight just stays North of yall it will be even better! I just LOVE all the beautiful wildflowers in TX. It's good to see the "OTHER" nice Vicki, too!

Dang, I sure hate missing a gtg that I started. So glad that it went on without me (and Sparkle) and so happy to see the great pictures and the fun you're all having. I'm looking forward to more.
