Sleepy Monday!?!

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Sleepy Monday!?!

Postby mtngal » Mon Mar 29, 2010 9:13 am

Morning! Anybody home????

Soos? Are you sleeping in on your first day of vacation?!?

This might be my first time to find an empty kitchen. Sorry, the pickins are slim at my house. Maybe some oatmeal and fruit? Coffee and tea? No grocery shopping for me this week. I'm flying back to Austin tomorrow for a couple months. Today I will be packing a small bag and doing some last minute chores. A dump run to town and a stop at the post office.

All my outside work is finished. The area around both my house and my Dad's is as ready as it can be for fire season. All grass is cut. Roses are pruned. Flower beds are weeded. The sad part is that my lilacs, roses, and flowering almond are just about to bloom and I'm leaving! My step-Mom will enjoy them!

The good news is that I will be seeing my DD and DGD soon. I miss them so much when in CA. And am hoping they will make an extended visit this summer. CA family so loves to see how DGD is growing. And especially important to Great-grandpa who is 83 this year.

Time to get packing (literally!). Hope everyone has a fun day! I'll 'see' you tomorrow night from Texas!

Every day is vacation for me!

It's a beautiful, sunny and expected-to-be warm Monday. Yippeeeeee!

That's the good news. But when it's warm here in late March, that means April's fixin' to come in like a lion. ;~)

Just sitting here at work this morning. The sun is out and it is suppose to warm up a lot this week (70's) and then thunderstorms later in the week, so the lake ice should be gone by the weekend. Very early this year! Yay! This will be the first March on record that we haven't had any snow at all. Usually, March is our snowiest month of the season! Hopefully, it isn't just holding out for April and then we get slammed with a massive snowstorm! I will enjoy this nice weather while I can, just in case.
Today is Naomi's 9th birthday, so I will be thinking about her a lot today. (I usually get myself some cake to celebrate!). I did hear from her dad yesterday via e-mail saying they are going on vacation this week for spring break and will get in touch with me when they get back, so I am relieved about that! Now I need to go out and get her a fun birthday present! I usually get her something to do with animals.

Have a great day!

Poured rain all night and it's still at it. What else is new here in the PNW?!

Today I start my low fiber diet to prepare for the colonoscopy on Thursday. Yipee! NOT! The low fiber foods listed for me to eat are a junk food junkie's delight. No whole grains, but I can have ice cream, white rice, white bread, milkshakes, only bananas for fruit, pancakes, syrup, mayo, pudding, cookies (no nuts), Yogurt (no fruit), pasta (no red sauce) and meat (no sausage). So much for my careful dieting!!

Got a visit from my neighbor, Lynn, last night. Her husband, David, (38) has colon cancer. Just before Christmas they removed part of his liver as the cancer had spread to there. They thought they got it but his last blookwork, when he went for his chemo, showed high levels so they did a cat scan and found the cancer back in the liver. So sad. They thought his treatments were going well, now this. This morning they are going in for his next chemo and Lynn is going to ask if they should do it because last time he had to be off chemo for 4 wks before they did surgery on his liver. If they continue with the chemo, it would seem that they are thinking surgery would be futile, which in that case, so would continuing the chemo. So sad. Please keep this family in your prayers.

Well, so far everything I've written has been on the negative side. Sorry to bring down anyone's day, but life happens.
Hope the sun is shining on you today!

Good morning all

I tried to sleep in this morning as I have not been sleeping well lately - body/mind has days and nights mixed up. No such luck as phone got me twice. Had to get up anyway to get brother in law and his wife back on the road after hastily scheduled, brief visit this weekend. Maybe there will be a nap in my afternoon.

Beautiful but chilly here today. The sever storms of yesterday moved thru with little damage in the area. Rest of week should be outstanding - 70s and sunny with no more rain until Sunday. Spring blooms everywhere.

Good news and bad. I'm getting a refund on taxes (yea); part of it has to go toward some oral surgery I just learned about last week (boo). Is this what they mean by "easy come, easy go"? Oh well, should still have some money left over to apply toward something fun.

Several friends lately have been found to be deficient in vitamin D. Apparently that is something younger doctors are testing for more these days. Seems that a shortage of "D" can cause all sorts of health problems, both physical and mental. Learned something every day. I'm going to suggest my sister get tested for it. Wonderful if some of her health problems could be that simple and apparently relatively easy and inexpensive to correct over a period of couple months. Are any of you familiar with the problem?

Stay safe today.

Sparkle and I are zipping through TX. Although it's impossible to zip through TX! I did get some pics in NM of Billy the Kid's grave. When settled, will get my blog updated with them and other news. We're at a picnic area for lunch right now. The dogs were glad to get outside and get some exercise. My connection lots of times has been "just barely" so mainly getting my work done until I have a better one. Sparkle's not been able to get on with her Verizon aircard at all the last couple nights. Maybe tonight.

Going to walk and stretch these muscles before settling back into the driver's seat.

Thanks for checking in, Beth. Safe travels.

On the vitamin issue. This last time I had my bookwork done the Dr checked me for vit. B12. That was a new one for me.

Beth...Glad your travels are going well, with the exception of reception :( I hate when that happens! I hope that my signal is good at the COE park this summer. I'm thinking because my area is at the south end of the lake, it will be better than up in the campgrounds. As for vitamin D...I heard a Dr. on TV recently say that he gives his family this vitamin and recommends it even if you don't take any other vitamins. I haven't had mine checked, but I am out in the sun quite a bit and I know you get it from the sun. I've heard of "mature" women getting vitamin B12 shots and feeling amazing :o I think it is a common deficiency. My daughter has a blood disorder and has to take B vitamins, iron, and I think folic acid. My Estroven is the Plus Energy formula and it has B vitamins. All I know is that I was practically falling asleep on my feet before I started taking it, among other menopausal symptoms, and I'm alert all day now.

Yesterday I gave the boys a shower just before the thunderstorms hit. They look so white now and feel so soft! Rags has decided that he's now afraid of thunderstorms...darn it! I think it has been awhile since the last one, so he has forgotten that he wasn't afraid of them  I had to put him in his kennel so he would feel safe. Some friends in the park wanted us to meet them out for dinner at Cody's tonight, before we leave here. There were 6 of us in all and we had a good time talking about beautiful places to see. Debbie emailed me a video she took of me and the two other mtc's on our ride up to Cedar Key the other day. I've never seen myself riding before...and especially to the theme song from "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly" Started stowing things out on the patio today. Only 3 days 'til departure!

Linda, Iowa gets a lot of thunderstorms so hopefully Rags will get used to them again. We are suppose to get some storms up here on Friday. I love thunderstorms, especially at night or early morning. My former cat, Snuffy, also loved storms and we would sit up anad watch them at night together. He would sit in the windowsill and not even flinch from the thunder! The only time he hid under the bed was when there was a tornado in the area. Smart cat!

Barbie...I have heard animals can sense the barometric pressure changes, so that is probably why Snuffy knew about the tornadoes. I definitely hope we don't have any of those close to us in IA this summer! Me and Rags will be huddled in the public restroom  BTW...Is Naomi your daughter?

Sorry to say but Iowa gets a lot of tornadoes. Just heed the sirens and watch the sky. They are at the top of "tornado alley". We get some up here but not too often, altho we did have a small one go thru here just a mile down the road from me last August. Did some minor damage, but no injuries. Missed my brother's rental house by half a block!

Yes, I do think Snuffy sensed the pressure change when the tornado was nearby. The next day there was another very bad thunderstorm and I came home to find him sprawled out on the living room floor like nothing was going on, so I knew we were safe! I called him my radar cat!

Yes, Naomi is my sweet daughter :o)

Our previous Boston Terrier, Tink, used to sit at the top of the basement stairs and watch DH and me as we were looking out the windows during tornado warnings...after the siren had gone off.....then she'd give us the "you stupid idiots can stay up here if you want...but I'm going down the basement" look and she'd head down the steps. Didn't take me long to learn to follow her instincts! Radar just lays on the bed and shakes...

Two of our cats were in our house when the Hurricane Rita flood hit. When we got back to the house one was laying on a bed like nothing happened. Pepper Ann was in the top of a closet. She was a freak before that. Now when we have bad weather she hides behind the door in the utility room.

Last week during my annual physical I found that I am vitamin D deficient. It was quite a surprise to me because I always drink at least two glasses of milk a day and I take calcium with D and a multi-vitamin with D. According to labeling on the pills and the milk carton I should have been getting at least 450% of the required amounts of Vit. D a day. I was given 8 pills of vitamin D 5000IU that I am suppose to take once a week for the next eight weeks. Then in three months I am suppose to have my level checked again.
