Appliance GPS

Postby AlmostThere » Wed Mar 24, 2010 10:31 am

As I type this I'm watching a blip on the news about thieves that are targeting the appliances in foreclosed new homes. Homes they know have all new appliances. The contractors are now going to start installing GPSs in the appliances so they can track them down. It has already worked once for them.
What next?!?!

When my dad died and we were trying to sell his rental property someone broke in and stole all the copper wiring in the house ! They call it "Urban Mining" -
I like the idea of GPS on appliances - it'd be great to catch the %&#*#*@ that do this type of stuff !!!
How about GPS chip inserted in our pets and kids - guess some jerk would still take them and just cut out the GPS unit, but it could work ?!
I suppose "we" could just have a GPS bracelet or necklace type thing for kids and a tag for pets - that'd probably be better then actually injecting something in them - it may not help if they're kidnapped, but it would help if they're lost.

There's already a way to "track" your kids thru their cell phones. Or I guess, husbands too if you need or want to.

Yeah, to make sure they're gone for real and are far enough away! (husbands, NOT kids)

I recently heard about implanting chips in elderly that suffer from alzheimers/dementia etc. because there has been allot of them gone missing and found dead in the NW here. They get into their cars and get lost, or walk away from their homes.

Good thinking Trudy. When I got married the second time I said this one will have to worry about where I am. It's worked so far.

I would like to have a GPS tag for my cats. It seems I am always looking for one of them. I have kind of looked into a GPS unit for my motorhome. I would put one for a couple of $100 dollars but I don't want to spend $1,000. They have to be wired into the battery system or have some kind of battery. It would be nice to be able to run these low life's down.

I bet being a security guard for contractors would be a good workcamper job. It wouldn't be good for single women but maybe a couple.

I read where an owner of a high-end car had an old cell phone hard wired somehow, in his car. When it was stolen he hit the big bonanza. It was a gang that had stolen rvs, cars, atvs, boats, trailers, and I can't remember what else. But he got the reward! So don't throw away that old cell phone. Find someone to wire it in your rig for you.

Now my rig, someone steals it, they got me to live with :o or is it  or maybe

I got a GPS kind of thing for one of my ferrets. Buster is deaf and I can never find him. I got a special tag that goes on his harness and then I have a remote that when I push the button, his tag beeps until I find him! Unfortunately, I have found the tag and harness in lots of places, unattached to the ferret! He is a little Houdini!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

There was another news story here about the foreclosed homes that are being broken into and all the appliances that are taken. A lot also have the copper wire removed as well. (This has also been happening in new developments) These homes are also just trashed just for the sake of it. Linda
