Crow River flooding

Here are some of the pics I took today of the flooding just west of me...

There is a park (and parking lot) under there somewhere...


Notice the '"no swimming" sign in the middle of the river...

The road to Rockford I took three days ago!




I was standing on this cliff when I noticed that part of it had washed away!


The town of Delano was so packed with people looking at the river, I had to park two blocks away. The ice cream store in town was doing a great business! Normally they are closed on Sundays. It was fun to see and I enjoyed the drive from town to town thru the farm country. The river crested late last night so it is on it's way back down now and no major damage was done. Still can't figure out why it flows north instead of south, tho.

Wow, Barbie----great flood pictures! I sure am glad that you noticed the cliff had washed away before you, too were in the river! The current looked pretty strong in most places. Many places on the east coast have been flooded this late winter, too. It will be interesting to see if this is now a new trend in the springs which will become a 'regular' occurrence with the global weather changes we are having.

Amazing how something like this draws so many people out. Did they allow people out on that bridge where the water was hitting underneath?

No,the bridge was closed off to cars and pedestrians with cops standing by on both sides. The river was at the second highest level on record. I couldn't believe that bar was still open for business! The front part was dry but the back part was under water.

Barbie, what does it say in that sign for The Crow's Nest? Looks like Oil & OFF Sal-- Liquor? But that doesn't make sense to me or just something I've never heard of???

It's a good thing she has company and doesn't have time to read posts (too busy playing Wii) so maybe she'll mark all posts read and I'll be safe.

But what the heck does that mean anyway On and Off Sale Liquor, is that some dumb MN way of saying some things are on sale??? Or that the liquor is for sale to drink on site and to go?

Apparently it is a midwestern thing... (or maybe you don't get out much!). It does mean that you can buy it to drink there or buy to take home (kind of like "eat in/take out" for restaurants). Maybe in this case, it means buy it in the bar and take it with you as you float away on down the river!

Barbie...I enjoyed the pics! That is pretty weird that the bar would be "allowed" to be open if half was under water. I would think it either a health hazard or could even break loose and float down the river...drunks and all I like the "no swimming" sign Also, the Watertown sign...how fitting As long as there are no heavy rains back in IA, I think the recreation area I will be at is out of danger....I'm still praying about it, though. Be careful out there and watch your step!

FYI: The photo of the caved in river bank I took with my telephoto and was actually ten feet back from the edge. Even before seeing that, I knew it wasn't a good idea to get too close to the edge. I have a fear of heights and water so I wasn't about to take any chances!
