Mini gtg

Postby Liz » Fri Mar 19, 2010 6:35 pm

Spring arrived a day early and the weather was perfect for a mini gtg! Bikerchic777 (Linda) met me in Dunnellon where we enjoyed a lunch of grouper sandwiches at The Blue Gator. We learned all about our respective lives as we chatted, but the best was time was after lunch.
Image

Linda brought with her 2 kayaks and related paraphernalia so we could kayak down the beautiful Rainbow River. Here’s Linda getting her kayak off the roof. The other one is an inflatable which I used and was impressed with it’s handiling. (Can you see another kayak in my future?
Image

We put in at the KP Hole, along with some tubers. View from the ramp.
Image

We pretty much drifted along with the current, not much paddling needed.
Image

We passed abundant wildlife...
Osprey
Image

Yellow-bellied turtles...cooters to you, Mitch.
Image

Great Blue Herons
Image

Anhingas...this one was drying his wings after diving for fish.
Image

Female anhinga perched in a tree.
Image

Colorful ducks...this one wasn’t posing
Image

Hawk....we also could hear an owl and a woodpecker near here, but didn’t see them.
Image

I didn’t realize I had captured this otter until I got home and uploaded my photos. First time I’d seen an otter on this river, although I knew there were some.
Image

Soft-shelled turtle.
Image

We explored some side trails...looking for alligators, but didn’t find them.
Image

A kayak is a great way to explore narrow passageways.
Image

On one of the side trails we came across the anhinga’s nesting tree...they were making a lot of noise.
Image

Image

This motor boat had a kayak attached on each side as they idled down the river while fishing.
Image

A few more scenes of the river....so peaceful.

All in all it was a great day...I hope to meet up with Linda again someday.
Hope you enjoyed.

We tried to find some gators, Amy, but no luck! I know they're out there because I've seen them. Must have been too hot. I haven't been able to say that for awhile! At least we did get to see a lot of other wildlife...even a cute otter :D I've been trying to add photos I took of Liz on my Motorola Droid, but I don't know what I'm doing, apparently. I managed to get them to Photobucket, but can't seem to copy and paste to my posting.

No mosquitos today. It's been too cold...today was the first officially warm day.
