My Dr Appt

Postby AlmostThere » Fri Mar 12, 2010 4:59 pm

Since I sort of deduced that my BP meds were the biggest culprit in how I have been feeling, I went to see my regular Dr. today. I told the nurse about all what I'd been through up till now concerning my heart stuff and she said she'd mention it all to my Dr before she came in so that she could read over my charts.

She must have done a through job as I sat on that silly table for 30 mins! We went over all what I had been through with my heart these past few weeks. To begin she changed my BP meds, which is what I was expecting. I'll start the new one tonight as I'm going to start taking it at that time of day, instead of in the morning. She also put me on low dose Celexa to take the edge off my stress. I'll start that in a couple days as she didn't want me to start two new drugs at the same time.

I then brought up the Parkinsons that the other Dr thought I had. She said she was watching me closely all the while and didn't see anything in my movement that would suggest Parkinsons. I did show her the slight tremor in my right hand and she said that she's pretty sure I have what's called Essential Tremors. It's quite common and runs in families. I do know my sister has a shaky hand, too. Sometimes it's noticiable but mostly it's just enough to be annoying. As my appt with the Neurologist is a couple weeks out yet, she suggested I keep the appt just in case I should experience something more, but thinks I won't need to keep it. Whew!

All in all I feel I dodged the big bullet with both my heart and the Parkinsons. PLT!

That's good news, Lenora. So glad your Doctor took the time to go over everything and put you at ease. There are some doctors who just think they know everything already and don't listen to what their patients have to say.

Great news Lenora,... I'm so glad you have reason to believe you do not have parkinson's. I agree that keeping that appointment is a good thing,. Just for added peace of mind. Re: the bp med, I take mine at night and have since beginning it several years ago. Works like a charm!

Relax now and get a good night's sleep, ya hear? :D

Great news.
Also sounds like you have a good doctor - they are getting more scarce these days.

Good news! Sometimes I think there is just too much info out there, and other times, glad it is. tGM has taken BP medicine for sometime, and about 6 months ago, it seemed to stop working. He is now taking a beta blocker, but his am #s are not good. Has an appt with his dr and also with a cardiologist. carold

I've been on BP meds for several years and after losing weight in Silver City my BP was getting really low (96/48) sometimes. I decreased my meds and am still working on time of day to take them and how much. When I asked my doctor at my Dec visit she didn't seem too concerned because it was really high right then which it ALWAYS is when I'm in the office cause I HATE going to the doctor.

So glad you don't have Parkinsons. Keep us posted on your progress.

It sounds like you had a good Dr. appointment. Yippee !!
I started taking the generic version of Celexa a couple of months ago and it's good stuff ! I feel much more positive and am able to handle stress allot better - hope it works as well for you.
I did read about someone with a BP problem and he finally had his blood pressure taken while standing up vs. sitting down and the difference was significant. Might be something for you to try next time you're at the Doc.
Thanks for the update.

Thanks for all the good wishes and caring thoughts.
Karen, I too started getting dizzy when my BP went low after losing weight last year and have had problems since. I tried taking half a dose, every other day etc. and nothing made me feel right. This is where I landed!
Trudy, funny you should mention standing and checking my BP as I mentioned that today to the Dr and she said that as long as I'm in the same position when checking it didn't matter how I did it, but she preferred sitting and resting a few minutes beforehand. On the Celexa, did you have any side effects? Gosh, it lists about 50 and some I certainly don't want!
Here hoping the new meds work their magic tonight! :D

I take Celexa too. I usually have a lot of side effects from medications, but had no problem with this one and it has helped me a lot.

Lenora - so happy that you got a good report at the Dr. Keep up the good work. It's so aggrevating when doseage needs to be adjusted.
Maybe you need to take your MH out for a little spin or weekend???

I didn't have any real side effects from the Celexa - maybe a little stomach upset the first couple of days, but nothing bad. They do list allot of side effects, don't they !?!? I was hesitant to try it, but I'm glad I did.

Stomach upset was one of the most common ones my Dr mentioned and she suggested I take it with food to help with that. I haven't looked up the med online but she said she prescribed me the lowest dosage at 10 mg.

definately good news
I never took the celexa but took a comparable ssri for many years. As with any
medicine that might cause tummy or intestinal upsets, I've found they usually
subside as your body gets accustomed to the new medication.

That is good news, Lenora. I'm pleased that you have a doc that spends time with you AND listens to you. I'll bet that Parkinson's possibility has been scary.
