Doc's visit

Postby Sparkle » Tue Mar 09, 2010 5:11 pm

Well I was just going to let this fall quietly by the wayside and not mention it again, but when I read the morning posts Redytotry said she was looking for a posting, thank you, and Almostthere hit the nail on the head. Doc thinks it is that Valley Fever. Turns out I have half a lung covered with what looks like a big white balloon. Causing me to be lacking in oxygen which gave me a heart attack while I was in the Baja, that and a combination of being so dehydrated with not eating and not drinking. I had a glass of lemonade, went out on the beach and promptly fainted which gave me a heart fart! So anyway after a whole series of blood work and a TB test he wants me to go to Phoenix for a CT scan.
No prayers, no flowers, I have too much to do in life to be sick.

Oh I can't deal with Mitch...cough...cough. I'm already playing it to the max when Beth and I play Scrabble. She gets a big word, triple score and I begin to clutch my chest. Doesn't work, she goes ahead and smashes me anyway. We are playing for what was left over when we split the big items we bought at Sam's. So far she has won an apple and a tube of handcream. Can the jar of sauce and the small bottle of Lubriderm me mine? Nah, not a chance, she's merciless!

WELL NOW! We didn't know about the fainting spell---Beth was very quiet about that, as were you!

I think I am happy to know it's Valley Fever, and that something can be done to get rid of it?? With all the breathing problems I have already, I will NEVER venture into any territory where that nasty stuff lurks. I need to go investigate what it is now on the net. ACK to AZ for me!

Please keep us posted as you investigate this, and let us know what the doc says to do about it.

GO, SPARKLE, GO! SIC IT, AND KILL IT!

I will be waiting for the latest after your CT scan. Breathing and lung things interest me very much.

Happy travels!

YEEK!!

Wow, Sparkle. Fainting? Heart attack? Dehydration? After toughing it out for so long ... I'm so glad you've got a good doc looking after you. Get Thee to Phoenix and get the cat-scan so the docs can map out your best road to recovery. I can't believe you've been traveling while you have been this ill. I'm glad you had Beth to keep an eye on you.

BTW, how many bags of saline did it take before you got "filled up?"

I too have been watching for your report. In fact was planning to e-mail tonight if no update from you.
Good thing you've been doing all that hiking the past couple of years; bet that helped make your heart so strong it can survive what else you do. I know you'll be okay but you do need to be careful to stay hydrated; my doctor fusses about that to me every time I go in. Go ahead and try to milk it for all you can; you deserve that much.
BTW: What is the treatment for clearing up the lung?
If you need some private practice with the scrabble, try pogo.com; they have one you can play for free. (I've been doing that a lot this winter.) Then you can sneak up on Beth with all your new skill. Just be sure to wait until you can play her for a really big prize. We played scrabble on rainy days at the lake place; played for a penny a point. Rick typically won and had a big jar of money; the rest of us had tiny containers for our few pennies.
Okay, I know you said no cards so this is just to get a chuckle while reminding you to be careful while having all that fun!

Get thee to the catscan. When my daughter lived in Tucson I got sick EVERY time I went to visit her until I learned to drink bottled water. What is the catscan supposed to tell them?

Holy Crap, Sparkle! So, no prayers, no flowers...how about "get the heck well so I can start picking on you again..." That work for ya?

I just read about the disease, and let me reiterate - Holy Crap. We're all so glad you're getting this taken care of.

Now that the cat's out of the bag, so to speak - I couldn't say anything unless she gave me permission - but I was very worried about our Sparkle for awhile. When she posted about the doctor in MX, she didn't say that he said she needed xrays and a cat scan. Of course, she said she'd wait to get back to the US and wouldn't turn around then - what, and ruin her vacation? So she kept telling me how much better she felt. Seriously, I do know she felt better - but we made a deal that she WOULD see a doc almost immediately here. So, we see the clinic in Ajo and I forced her to stop to see about getting an appt. We walked in and before I knew it she walked out saying it was not for her. We came back to the rv park and she asked the managers who they would see - they said the clinic. Then they said - well, the ambulance service is right next door, ask them - and THEY said the clinic. So, finally, she went back to the clinic, made and appt and she says the doctor she saw is great - and she'll go back tomorrow. At this point they THINK it's valley fever - still doing tests.

They need to do the ct scan of the lungs - to make sure what the sac is they saw in the xrays. And then they can work on where to go from there. When she goes back tomorrow they should know if it's Valley Fever based on the blood test results, I believe (she only tells me what she wants to).

Soos, there are things you can get most every where. It doesn't mean everyone who travels to AZ gets valley sickness.

As to Scrabble - I bought the Apple Scrabble game - and we were playing it for the first time. Before we started, she tells me - you have to be nice to me, I might have a heart attack, you know. Well, no way I'll give anything to her that way. It's like her "poor ole widdow woman" routine - which works way more often than I expect it to. That's our Sparkle.

Good Grief Sparkle!!! I had to Google Valley Fever as I had never heard of it. It said rest was called for so maybe you can get Beth to mix those Bourbon & Ginger drinks for you so you'll be in shape for Alaska.
