I had to quit wearing contacts many years ago now because of dry eyes. They don't usually bother me - but after the day I went on the 4-wheeling ride - my eyes have been worse. And my drops weren't working. Some days are worse than others. Picked up the night gel and started using it last night - hopefully my eyes will start feeling back to normal again. My Mom developed dry eyes and when she had cataract surgery her eyes never quite healed properly and the doctors blamed her dry eyes, so I'm trying to keep mine from getting worse.

Now, how about dry skin. I don't feel old enough to have any of these problems!!!

Are you sure you're drinking enough water? I've always had a problem with dry eyes and found that when I significantly increased my water intake it really helped. By increase I mean 2 to 3 qts a day. Hard for me, I really don't like water.

After reading about it and knowing that Lenora had success going I took myself to the nearby Curves....went for the second time today. I don't "like" it and don't know if it will work for me but what I did know for sure is that if I didn't change what I was doing I would not change the results I seemed to be getting these last few years.... I do like the part of not having to wear anything fancy to exercise in and not having to walk through a huge building like I used to years ago when I had a pass to the local and large YMCA. I also appreciated that it is all time limited and completely pre-planned for me. I try to explain to people, that I spent many many years being in charge of things and having to plan all kinds of stuff. Now that I am retired I chose to limit my serious pre-planning projects! I like exploring, new discoveries and spontaneous! More as I adjust to this process... :) And thanks Lenora for inspiring me!

I just read an article on Five Foods You Should Eat Each Day- so am sharing it.

I need to work on the whole grains/oats - if that will help flatten my belly, I'd be thrilled. While in MX I was buying chard instead of lettuce sometimes - need to continue doing that. Or mix the two - as I know it's better than the lettuce I normally buy. I was eating a yogurt a day, but haven't been. Just bought some day before yesterday so will get started on that again - at least every other day. I put onions in almost everything. Just don't do many nuts - have a slight allergy, but can eat small amounts and that's all you're supposed to need.

Jean keeps telling me when we get to AK we're looking to see if they have a gym there. Like she needs it - the lady is wasting away to NOTHING. Maybe going with someone, I'd do it again.

Tina, I'm glad you are giving Curves a try. I hate working out, too, but as you said, it's all pretty much planned out. All you need to do is show up, mindlessly go around the circuit as many times as makes up the 30 mins and you're done! After my scare last week I am skipping going this week even though the Dr assured me it was okay. I did bowl yesterday and, of course, felt fine. Just my head playing games. I will see what the Dr has to say this Friday at my appt and go from there.
Exercise is for everyone, not just the overweight or ones with health issues. Weight bearing exercises are a must for our bones and cardio. Keep with it, Tina!!
Now I'm off to see the dentist so he can finish my $1,300 crown!!

It's really warming my cockles to see that we're starting to take our health seriously! I'm excited for everyone.
Beth, I had read that article previously, and it was interesting and informative.

So, today, for my health, I have been climbing up and down the stairs MANY times helping the guy who is converting our attic to a Fitness Center. His helper is gone, so I'm the Helper Doofus today! And I just finished a small, lightly dressed salad for lunch. I want to be as big as Spanky (like THAT would ever happen - my boobs weigh more than she does...) :o

Mitch calls our Sparkle, Spanky. Ah to have boobs - when I gain enough weight I almost have them.

Well, I just discovered a wonderful little treat - it's Dannon Light & Fit Carb & Sugar Control - 50 calories and only 3 grams of carbs. It's really delicious. Says right on the little container - Diabetic Friendly. Hey, Mikey, try it - you'll like it! (wait...that wasn't Mikey, was it? Mikey was "he'll eat anything." So what was "try it - you'll like it"???) Oh, you know I'll go searching! :D

ON EDIT: "Try it. You'll like it." Alka-Seltzer 1971. Remake by Kathy Griffin 2006. (don't ya just love the internet...)

I'm reading the book "In Defense of Food" by Michael Pollan and is it ever an eye opener as to what and how the Western Diet has changed our health. I mentioned him in an earlier post as he has recently been on Oprah and Dr Oz. One of his suggestions is not to eat anything your great grandmother wouldn't have recognized as food. Shopping was easy when most food came from farms. Now, factory-made products have made chemical additives a significant part of our diet.

Most of what the typical Western diet consists of now are non-food products. I'll post more about the book in the book section in a few days. You can order a copy from Amazon for $6.79 plus shipping.
