More like two! The ice on the lakes up here in MN will go out around the middle of April, but we can still get snow up to May. The ice houses have to be off the lake by this Sunday, tho. The ice starts to get unstable as the temps get above freezing during the days and the houses can get frozen into the ice if it thaws and freezes again around them. Then they can't be removed unless it is in pieces.

I imagine that winter lasts even longer for Soos and Cedar tho.

Sounds about the same for me up here in the higher altitudes, although Cedar, being down lower and next to Lake Champlain, spring comes nearly a month earlier, I think. I am lucky to be able to drive out of here by the end of April, after the mud from the spring thaw settles down. And yes---we sometimes do get May snow, as well. My trailer can't be moved out until late in May.

Our last blizzard in 2009 was April 4th...the prom had to be postponed! To avoid killing frosts the earliest we can plant flowers outside is about mid-May. Today is the first day to make reservations in SD parks for the Memorial Day weekend. Last night we decided that we'll be lucky if the drifts around the rig have melted by then! We're going to forego camping Memorial Day weekend this year because we know when it melts that fields are going to be flooded and planting is going to be late. Many of the towns along rivers are already starting to fill sand bags preparing for flooding this Spring...it's been about 13 years since we've had a winter this much snow and constant low temps. All we can hope for is a slow melt. The frost line is about 4 1/2 feet so the ground isn't going to absorb much. Last Friday afternoon a water line in town broke (DH works for the city during down time at the farm) they started working on the break at 4:30 and finished at 7:45 the next morning...slow because the ground was frozen solid.
My mind works like lightning...one brilliant flash and it's gone.

Years ago we used to snow ski. We lived in Silicon Valley (CA) at the time and drove 5 hours north to ski at Northstar which is a ski resort just outside Truckee and in the beautiful North Shore Lake Tahoe area . Anyway, one year we skied on MOTHER'S DAY which is mid-May. Lots and lots of snow that year and we had beautiful sunny weather. Sure don't miss that sport though.

Now I live near Pismo Beach, CA and we are having stormy, cold, windy pouring down rain weather for the last 2 days. Even had some thunder this morning. Scared my two pups like crazy. Oooooppppps - THE SUN JUST CAME OUT
YIPPEEEE!!

Raining here too, Linda, has been on and off all day. I'm sooooo ready for summer!!
