GOOD MORNING ALL!
I just watched that poor little Canadian girl whose mom died of a heart attack right after she arrived in Vancouver win the bronze medal for the women's short program. She skated beautifully, holding it together until it was over, and then, crying, shouted something about her Mama to the crowd---it was in French, and the crowd was noisy, but I think probably she shouted that she did it for her mother.
And I watched our own Bill Demong and his USA Nordic Combined team win the first medal EVER won by the U.S. in that event, and it was SILVER! I was so excited for them all, and had to jump up out of bed to cheer Bill on at the last lap, as he was the final racer in the relay! He managed to pass the leader after starting about 14 seconds behind him, but his skis were slow on the final downhill due to the snow conditions. What is amazing, always, is his physical ability to pass the top guys on the uphills! I can still see him as a student in the Kindergarten I was subbing for way back then, jumping off anything in sight! How exciting for that group of dedicated men to be the first to ever get on the podium in that sport! They have all been skating together for years now, individually winning many world championships, and always hoping to do just what they finally managed to do---win a medal in the Olympics! And Bill has put my tiny little town of Vermontville , NY on the national news!
We got hardly any snow last night, unfortunately, but it's snowing hard out there now. Many VT schools are canceled as they have many power outages due to the heavy, wet snow. I am hoping our road conditions and the forecast for this to keep on all day might allow our school to close to keep us safe! I will have to keep a close watch on the school closings. So far, nothing for us in Franklin County, but it looks as if Cedar's school may be closed.
Here's hoping I will be here all day, but if not, I'll check back later to read what's going on in your life. Coffee is hot and Hazlenut, so get your typing fingers in shape while you sip!
