RV net...opps

Apparently we are not to post about accidents..one happened near our town. Here are the pictures. On RV net..I posted the story and then thought maybe he did not have a sway control. Then someone posted they do not understand why people would post about TT accident. Whatever

I am glad no one was hurt.

Bummer! The road looks very straight there. Wonder how they flipped, unless they had to swerve for some reason (animal, car, etc).

Southbound lanes on Interstate 5 were blocked by an overturned trailer for about two hours Monday, Feb. 22.
The crash occurred at about 11:30 a.m. near the North Lake Samish overpass.
A trailer was being towed by a 2002 Ford Excursion when it began swinging from side to side, according to the Washington State Patrol. The driver of the Excursion lost control and struck a barrier. The trailer rolled over and blocked the southbound lanes of the freeway, according to State Patrol.
The driver, James E. Lee, 59, of Victoria, B.C., was wearing his seatbelt and was not injured.

I almost wonder if it had too much rear weight. Is that rack on the back an aftermarket add on??

As to RV net...well a few have come to defend my right to post about the accident.

There are frequently stories about RV accidents on RV.net -- and here as well. I find on RV.net such stories result in discussions -- educated and NOT -- about how to drive down steep grades, loads, tires & such. I find them instructive, sometimes.

I chose to not look at the link. But,...perhaps a rear tire went down as happened to me last fall. That then changes the angle of presentation at the hitch, changes traction with tires on the road,.... and even with sway control (as I had) accidents can happen.

It didn't show the tow vehicle, but the RV looks like someone layed it on its side, then they picked it up again. No noticable damage.

The tow vehicle was a Ford Excursion. It started to sway and he lost control.
Now in my greenhorn experience..I have only been RV 3 years with a larger trailer.
I have to wonder about that large diamond plated box that was added onto the rear of the trailer.
When we first got our larger TT we looked at adding racks to the rear for bikes, etc. After extensive research we decided it was not worth the risk. Everything we have read..says to keep the weight axle's forward. In our TT all the heavier gear goes forward of the axles.
The lighter stuff, chairs, entry mat's pool noodles, etc go aft.
Grill, dutch oven, etc go forward.

I was amazed at the pictures..I thought when they got it flipped up that side would be totaled. It looks like it may be repairable.

glad no one was hurt. From the angle, it looks like the awning took the brunt of the damage. Whenever I see pictures of overturned RV's I automatically think ...I hope they emptied the tanks... Linda

Oh my Goodness! Perfectly appropriate to post here in my opinion. I agree, those enormous steel boxes on the back, probably filled with the tools HE just had to have caused it. Dreams are probable not the post some would want to see either, but it IS about an RV. I dreamt? dreamed? last night that I returned from somewhere or other and Beth's rig had a burgundy with black ragtop convertible buried in the side, at the bedroon. I rushed in and she had been in bed when it happened and the car was resting on her legs. There were three guys in the rig, one bending over Beth, I think he was trying to keep the weight of the car off her legs. I asked the other guy if help was coming and he assured me it was. The third guy had been the driver. I asked Beth if she wanted me to come to the hospital and she calmly replied, no, they will be towing the RV in and I need you to look after Peaches. That was all, but it is still on my mind.

re: emptying the tanks,.... I had JUST emptied and rinsed my tanks last fall..... good thing as the black tank was ripped out and ended up on the road below the bridge. Ewwwwww......

I did ok. I'll be glad when it's spring and I can tow again and get over my nerves.

I appreciate postings of accidents, it simply tells me never to get over confident
and always think ahead. Accidents can happen to anyone, even experienced
drivers, and....they happen in the blink of an eye. So be careful out there ladies.

If we are everything RV, then I don't see anything wrong with posting an accident here. After all, they do happen and we need to be able to discuss the what if's, etc. Good post.
