Mardi Gras Parade

Will attempt this post but been having problems with either my puter or iternet, not sure. Port aransas, population about 3500, has its own Mardi Gras Parade. I've never been to one, since we don't do that up north - probably too darn cold. Here are some ladies who were lined up to watch, having a great time. Image

Here are a couple pics of Eddie also. This one is before surgery, obviously in pain and very subdued

What kind of dog is Eddie? He looks alot like a dog we had when I was growing up, but Cinnamon was all black with a white spot on his chest. Same size, face and fur, tho! My dad used to say he was actually a little boy in a dog suit because he was so sweet and smart! He left an abusive home down the street to come live with us (his choice). We gladly took him in! Just a great dog!

What do you do with all those beads after you get them?

Looks like fun!

Echo, unlike Bourbon St. in New Orleans where a little "skin" showing is the deed for the beads,.... mardi gras parades just throw the beads and candy and moon pies for fun. I think she behaved! Hee hee..... right, Kelpie? :D

So glad that pained look is gone from Eddie,... Such a good boy.

I think I could handle that parade. Around here the crowds are just too big for me. Goodwill here takes the beads and recycles them for next year. Some years after Christmas I take the Christmas ornaments off the tree and decorate it with Mardi Gras beads.

Eddie looks a lot like my Bailey! She's part beagle and part terrier but looks mostly terrier. Uses her nose like a beagle (and her barker)! Glad to see he is on the mend.

Well! All the times I've been to Port Aransas and never knew they had a Mardi Gras! I would gladly have lifted my T-shirt, but who knows what they would have thrown at me.

We sometimes participate in the Mardi Gras Trail Ride. Lots of people on horseback, trailers pulled by tractors & trucks Cajun bands and people in traditional costumes. For lunch we stop and eat BBQ that everyone's been cooking on the ride, the kids have a chicken run. Lots of fun, there's usually several miles of participants. Then they also have the regular Mardi Gras parades in Lake Charles with huge floats pulled by big rigs.

Janet, Eddie was hit by a car last week. You can find the details on the Pets thread under "My Fault".

I didn't do anything to get the beads. One of my friends here was on a float and she told me that there was one girl flashing her b***s for beads. this parade is supposed to be family friendly. Don't know what I'm going to do with them since I never did this before.

Looks like a great day. Many communities all over the south hold some sort of Mardi Gras festivities; didn't realize it was not done elsewhere. The smaller to medium size community ones are usually nice - you could not pay me enough to go to another one in New Orleans however.

Glad to see the wonder dog on the mend.

Don't forget that in OH where I live there is about 18 inches of snow on the ground right now and the temp is not above freezing so I doubt people would stand around for beads.

There are no mardi gras celebrations in the north,.... at least not that I know of. I guess it's a southern thing for sure,... deep south and gulf coast areas. We have winter carnivals here in the north,... with winter sports and ice castles.
