Firewood in NY

I just found this and thought that it might be of some interest to those traveling in NY. You are not allowed to transport firewood more than 50 miles from it's source and must have documentation proving it. I'm not sure about regulations in other states, you ladies may have knowledge about similar regulations that could help others while traveling in your areas.

I have seen signs in various states asking that firewood not be taken across the state lines...it can be a carrier for pests that could spread to forests
actually a good idea having seen what the pine bark beetle can do forests

I think this is something that I just never thought about, but I agree that it makes sense, same as I would never think of hauling firewood in the rv because of termites and other bugs, but didn't give it a thought about hauling back Mitch's leftover firewood in the bed of the truck from TN. I think it was processed, since it was bought packaged, but it's still sitting in my garage, thanks Mitch! I was saving it for when I needed it, even hauled it to FL with us!

I checked the Louisiana DEQ website and couldn't find any regulations regarding transporting firewood, but did find this info from 2006 on the USDA site. http://www.aphis.usda.gov/newsroom/cont ... 6fwd.shtml

Makes sense to me...just like California not letting certain fruits/vegis brought in across the state lines.

South Dakota requests that you don't bring in firewood from out of state either. http://www.sdgfp.info/Parks/General/FirewoodAlert.htm

Never heard of that, but it certainly does make sense. Thanks for bringing it to our attention.

This began a couple of years ago. I have one camping destination in NY that is farther than 50 miles. The first year of the regulation, I took my own wood, but in accordance with the policy I burned it all at that location. Care should be taken to not ever leave any behind. This past summer I purchased all my wood,... kiln dried. Ohhhh,.. so much better! Less to lift and carry and so easy to light with my little "fire starters".

Same thing in Iowa.
